View Full Version : Environment - "Figure it out"
birEn 05-17-2004, 02:21 AM hey,
I'm studying at VFS right now, I just finished the modelling part for my set. I got a couple of region renders of the environment, just lighting with everything shaded flat phong (just so i can see the scene without any colors). Nothing special like GI or Final. Took me about a week to model it, 5 days to light it (initially i setup GI for it, turns out the render time was a bit too much) and about 3 days to unwrap it and optimize the render settings.
So lemme know.

hi biren!
the modelling looks impressive - you didi a good jo in details so it gives a nice feeling for the large scale. if you use it for an animation you will have a lot of fun with this scene cause you can use it for many perspectives.
the lightning is a bit poor.
it doesnt seem like the sun lights the building through the windows but you actually see the cg lights with their hard shadows.
there are some tricks how to fake global illumination: lightdome, using multible spots that are offset a bit with hard shadows to fake soft shadows.
but first of all you should think what emotion you want to create. light draws emotion. is it an old abandones church where lightbeams fall through broken windows cutting drwaing lines in the dusty air. or is it a clear dark room, many areas disapear in the black, just some highlights and some candles lighting certain areas.
perhaps you look at reference drawing and think about your story first so you will do much easier creating a good atmosphere

hey,
the earlier link wont work now... kinda lost the images. anyway since last time i've been tweaking the lighting a lil' bit and started texturing, just doing the color maps right now. btw i checked out the link sent by mimo8... pretty good.
anywayz these pics dont have any kinda shadow blurring out i'll probably be doing that in post. and yeah i would be doing an animation for it so there you go mimo8... :D.
And thanks Tess ur too kind :D.
here are the new pics.

Looking pretty cool man, I'm looking forward to seeing how it looks textured... there was a recent grad who did a cool looking cathedral gothic building like that, check out his reel (I think his name was Pedro...can't remember for sure...he had a giant and a rosary full of bondage guys...3d41....ask Mike about it)...
Anyway, good luck with your set.
Cheers,
-Kol.

Hey Biren!!!
Sup man!? You gotta post some new stuff man that cathedral was looking really good! Keep up with the good stuff! I hope you slapped some more textures into that environment!
I think some of those empty walls could have some more touchups in details but you could always texture it up!
Keep it up!
