View Full Version : Environment: Night Scene
Pete Latrofa 05-16-2004, 07:35 PM Hello- I posted this in the Finished Works gallery as well. But I think the lighting needs a bit more work. So I'd like to get some feedback from the real-time artists here and anyone else that's interested. Let me know what you think about the overall piece especially the lighting. Thanks. Pete.
stats:
6871 triangles.
All texture maps are 512x512 or smaller.
The Scene is lit with vertex lighting.
The building's design is from an actual building in Chicago. The rest of the scene is all me.

Looks great, although I feel as though the bottom half of the picutre is letting the top half down.
The top half has a great use of colours and lighting.
But I think the grass is throwing me. Maybe try a smoother texture
Make the moon yourself. It'll look way better than a photo, and it'll pay off in the end.
Edit: This building wouldn't happen to be a railroad station, would it?

Nice work. One critique: The lighting on the building is not consistent with the position of the moon, which would be your primary light source in a shot like this.
I really like the texturing on the building.

Hello- here's an updated image with a few changes. The moon has been tweaked a little, added some subtle shadows, and changed the lighting a bit as well. I think the reason the lighting is challenging is because it is behind the building so in reality, it would make most of the building pretty dark. probably the only way to light this with the moon in it's current position would be to use artificial lighting, ie. the sconzes and walkway lamps. and maybe add a few more lamps somewhere? what do u guys think?

matt- this is a portion of a very large building, used as a cultural center in chicago.

And here are a couple of closer-up detailed views of the building.

Cullen- a smoother texture for the grass? how do u feel the bottom half isn't up to par with the upper half?

I think overall it looks pretty good. Im not a huge fan of the rainbow pallette going on with the shingles on the towers
Other than that, i agree with the comments that have been previously said
