View Full Version : Weapon: Old Rifle
SirLuthor 05-16-2004, 08:38 AM Well, I finally have a model that's finished enough to show here.. This model is supposed to be a fairly old style rifle/hand cannon. It's for a game modification for the RPG Morrowind, and as such, is very limited in what types of mapping can be used and such, so ya, if you're looking for a brilliant rifle picture, don't look here.
What I'm really looking for is advice on how to improve it, the texture in preticular, as texturing and UVWMapping is my weak point. My thanks to everyone who sees this and comments!
Oh ya, the model is made and rendered with 3DS Max 4.2 (which is one of the few versions of Max which can export to .nif, Morrowind's native format), and the textures were done with Jasc Paintshop Pro 8.10

Can't see anything. Adjust your gamma level, bro.

Hmm, I think that's out of the wuestion, mainly because my levels are fine-tuned to my specifications, and I don't want to change them.. I'm sure you understand.. Would it help if I upped the contrast?
[Edit] Done. That should be a bit easier to see.. At least, I hope it is..
Well I've got ColorVision calibration and it's pretty dark, that's all.
Upping the contrast just made it look all red, pretty much.

Please light your model better. It is far too dark. Keep in mind that you want a neutral, accurate gamma setting on your monitor, rather than a custom one that differs from the rest of the population, or else your work will never look good outside of your own monitor.
I'd say something positive about the model, but I honestly cannot see enough.

Well, I've rendered it with a white background that may help a bit.. If not, I'll be damned, and you'll all be unable to see my image... Hmph.. Anyway, all your opinions on my settings are duly noted and appreciated!

I can see the picture fine.
I like the look of it. It looks like it could be a club and a rifle hehe

Well, ya! I mean, what do you think you would do if you were a rifleman, and got embroiled in hand-to-hand combat? No time to look around for a pointed weapon, just have to make do with your solidly built musket! Heheh...
