View Full Version : Particle Speed
mattis 05-15-2004, 04:03 PM I have made smoke moving in a pipe by using : "Create flow along curve" tool. I am making one animation with fast moving smoke, and one with slow moving smoke.
How do I change the speed (decrease or increase) of the particles moving along the curve?
Thanks

the greater the distance between the rings the faster the move (distance/time = speed), move them closer and they go slow :)

Thanks for your reply westiemad
One more question though: Can I make more or remove those rings, and how to (if it is possible)?
Thanks

yes you can, in the options there is Num control segments, and subsegments.

Even though I made 10 insteed of 5 nums (those rings) the particles didn't move any slower, do I have to move the rings in order to make the particles move slower??

Since "Create flow along curve" is actually a particle system that was mostly controlled with expression, to make it move slower, you need to increase the lifespan of it.
Look for root transform node (default is flow), open Attribute Editor, look at the Extra attributes tab, there will be an attribute called Lifespan, which is linked to lifespan of the particle system.
In turn will control goalOffset based on rampValues, where rampValues v-coord will use normalized age of the particle.
But basically to make the flow slower, set the lifespan longer so each particle will reach the last controller in longer duration.
Moving the locator, will made the particle move faster/slower based relatively on distance between each locator, but the overall time from start point to end point will be the same.
