 hmm...another great pic! Very nice lighting again.I have 2 crits on the pic:1 the sea is rendered really nice but lacks specularity...It kind of looks like sand right now....And 2 i would love to see your main figures more defined in some way(maybe a stronger backlight or something.I thing the sky is for now a much stronger visual element than the 3 figures

I checked out your whole site (darksprite.com) and thought it was interesting.
"Perseus and Andromeda" is a really great painting. Nice colour and composition.
My only criticism is the suggestion of a "role reversal". By giving Andromeda the symbolic sword, you've added a homoerotic quality to the painting (was that intended?), instead of just reversing the traditional roles of men and women.
P.S. - The Renderosity gallery is slooooooowwwww......

thanks for the kindness, people.
now, am I adding "a homoerotic quality"?
first of all, why would I just reverse the traditional content if I didn't want to make a point?
secondly, anyone may interpret my piece as they will certainly, but please do not make it seem as if I intended to.
no homoerotic elements are intended. and truly, I know such things are subjective and personal, but wouldn't the image be explained much better if Andromeda's sword (symbolic penis) is intended as a show of power against the *beast*?
I mean, the traditional pieces that depict this greek mythological theme have Perseus symbolically threatening the beast with his penis and armour. do you consider his penis is a threat against the girl he is saving? in these paintings, including mine, the tied-up person is merely decorative. the REAL sexual tension is between the beast and the winged warrior.
other people interpreting this piece, can go to any lengths to prove that there are homosexual hints in it. perhaps they would be mollified by the assurance that the artist (that would be me) although not a homosexual himself is liberal enough not to care about diverting sexual preferences and lifestyles?
thanks for honouring me with your interest.

I thought I'd add here a detail, so that the thread won't look so damn empty. I'm afraid I still can't get the whole piece to look good at under 50kbytes.

Renderosity is a Poser haven... pretty much everyone there uses it for imagry.
You should state up front if that's what you're using :D
I'd be more than happy to host a high-res version of your image for you and link to it from here.
Just give me a shout via email.

You are dead wrong Grey. Renderosity is comprised of dedicated galleries for 3D Studio Max, AMAPI 3D, Amorphium, Animation:Master, Beginner, Bryce, Carrara/RDS, Challenge Arena, Cinema 4D, Digital Comics, Fractal, Holiday, ,Imagine, Lightwave, Maya, Memorial, Mixed Medium, Mojoworld, Other Apps, Photography, Poser, Product Showcase, Rhino 3D, Strata 3D, Terragen, TrueSpace, Vue d'Esprit, Work In Progress, World Builder, and ZBrush. True there are a great number of Poser people there but to say it is a Poser domain would be doing injustice to those who use other apps. They offer free hosting for personal galleries.
excuse me: but the renderosity store is 99% dedicated to Poser.
The Renderosity Gallery is 99% Poser.
It's the biggest Poser site on the web, so much so that Curious Labs ONLY posts on Renderosity.

thanks everyone.
renderosity DOES favour poser work, but if I had used poser in my work, I'd have stated it. please do not undermine my painting in such a way. perseus, andromeda the sea, the beast or the wings have not been modelled or rendered from poser in any way.
3D work on this piece consists of the beast, Andromeda's helmet, the rocks and the sea being primarily modelled and rendered in Zbrush, and some postwork in Zbrush as well (3D smudge brush on the clouds and sea). the final postwork, and the main burden of work was Photoshop 7.
if it comes to that, though, I have full resolution unfinished drafts of my painting that should dispel all doubt. (I have also posted drafts on ZbrushCentral, a Zbrush art forum from the early days of this project)
I think this should still work:
http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=005982
on the next page, I uploaded draft number 9 (out of 17) in the highest possible resolution, and with the guide photoshop layer visible and set in Multiply.
again thanks for the interest.
yours, christos

Sorry to have missed this thread, I usually just check the 2d section for finished 2d images.....It's a great painting, at least that's what I think it is. (a painting) Poser? Don't know anything about it.
I did mess with Zbrush for a minute and to me it felt more like a paint program than a 3d modeling program. You have really used it well on the water and serpent. Might have to buy zbrush and learn some of it.
