I have lost all my thread, in the recent attack! so I'm going to repost everything in the same order!... few words: my project turn around satyrical purpose: a représentation of man and war, in the same "body", but (if possible), with some fun!...

of course, all the comments, and answers, have been deleted; but there was a question about the topic which just begin: as I understand the topic of "machine flesh", it is organic parts becoming machine parts; it's going to allow a very interesting texturing process, with a lot of progressive masks! but in a lot of threads, it is organic part encaged, surrounded, by mechanics ones, like prothesis?.... any advice?...

I think you're going in the right direction by really merging flesh and machine together... can't wait to see your models combined.

maybe it's interesting for some moddeller, as it is not a very common workflow: from zbrush to rhino, where the nusbs tools "finish" the form

I very seldom do preliminary sketch, when building a picture, as I think that it's funnier to see the picture "growing" it's own way... but I constantly draw step by step, just to "feel" more the material. hjere is one layout of that sort of sketch...

one of the most pleasant thing, when finised mofdelling, is to look for an appropriate hdri, for the environnement of the mettallic parts... here is the beginning of the process

the most important part, like the face, will be, later, textured by uv map... but here, I'm looking for a procedural, mix metal and rust, mix skin...the result is here too much rust, and a non very fine skin, but it's the beginning... the multi channel and alpha mask of "Velouté"the new plug in for material , is incredingly powerful!...

ok, I thing this step is finished! I've trying a "near action" pose, not really in movement, but not "just in front with arms on the side"...afterwards, even satyric, they are supposed to be warlords!... I have re-done the left arm, which did'nt satisfied me trhe first time; one of the pleasant thing of zbrush is that the modelling of the arm takes few minutes... it's longer to "finish" it in nurbs!

I test here the textures and first approach of lighting on the main character... obviously, there is too much bump, and the hdri is too "shy", but I think it is on the way!... (well, I hope!)

the guy with the cannon head looks best by himself, even though a row of cannons makes sence,... the figure is strong enough to stand by himself. The pikes on the other hand are better as a group.

Hi! to relax from all that military stuff, I began that rockwellian pastiche in my 2d entry... but the initial painting turn out to a 3d work... if you go to the 2d entry, you'll see the painting, and the first sketch... the 3d is unfinished, of course: no feet, and no post work to link the parts, as there are zbrush renders on the organic parts, and carrara one on the mechanic ones... (due to the fact that it is very easy to paint on a zbrush model, with "projection master", but the reflections and the hdri, aren't supported by zbrush render engine...

very very nice your renders, I´m enjoying seeing all images you post here.. looks great and with unique style. the only thing I´d point out is about blue (going to cyan+green) vs hot contrast that I see in almost every image and it tends to be a little repetitive
keep it up!

well... the final render of the picture... more or less, it is what I was searching: a rather "confuse" picture, like a movie 's one... it needs of course post work... technically, there are two renders: one for the landscape and the troup, in carrara3, with fog effect, and depth blur; the resulting render has been imported in zbrush, on a plane, as background, and the main characters textured and full rendered in zbrush... Hope you like it! and thank you for your precedent kind comments! I'm afraid, with my very poor english , to be a sadly non participant, ; it's the first time I post on cgtalk, and there is a lot, a LOT of great pictures and artists!...

Hello! I don't know you, but me, I'm often a bit discouraged , in a first time, at the end of the final render, and before the post work... characters seems so... goofy, and artificial... it's not a matter of realism, I'don't care with realism, it is that... they just dont seems to be really "in the mood" of the picture... with the post work beginning, after 2 or 3 days working on other things, it becomes a better feeling!...

For first:bowdown: you've created here an interesting and really twisted word from all aspects! A real piece of fine art with the tools of 3D. Simply excellent, the mood, texturing, all!!!
It's a bit like Goya's world mainly his drawings.
Best luck to you!!

thank you, airworks and tremoside!!! I'm not going to keep the sepia border, it's just a play with the material... and the different war pictures, from some of the different World War... anyway, few minor changes on the picture, but some ones...

Tres bon Marcel, d'ailleur j'espere qu'un jour tu m'indiquera comment proceder avec toshop pour texturer de cette façon.
Tes modeles rafraichissants sont à ne pas douter l'oeuvre du tres grand talent qui t'anime.
Bonne continuation Marcel
