Well i've never done low poly work before so i thought i'd give it a try. Here's my first low poly model, and i'm sure it's filled with tons of problems. Thought maybe i could get some crits for things i should change or problems i might look out for next time around.

Hey, that's pretty cool for such a low-poly count.

I think the legs are a bit short, though. Don't you think? Especially where his knees are, they should definately be higher. The way that I usually check whether my proportions are correct is by lowering the arms so they are in a strait soldier-like pose. If the hands are practically touching the knees, you know you've done something wrong. It's sometimes hard for me to see it when the arms are pointing strait out, but that just me, cause I'm also a new to low-poly.

Since you're using MAYA 5, you can fix this pretty easily by creating a latice around the leg area, adjusting it(the lattice), then duplicate the influenced geometry and voila, you've fixed the proportions without having to remodel! Well, it's worked for me.

Could you post a wireframe?

I'm also very new to all this and strangely enough, I also chose a knight as my first project. Curious as to how to paint chain-mail in Photoshop. I have no clue how to do it.

Cheers,

thanks for taking the time to reply podman. Here are some wireframes.

I think you might be right about his arms being too long. I've always modeled w/ arms straight out and it makes it a lot more difficult to gauge if the length is right. I think i'm going to have to start modeling w/ them at the sides or somewhere at a 45 degree angle between straight out and straight down. Using the lattice is a good idea for altering the length of his legs and arms. previously i was just selecting points and scaling them.

Hey, no problem! I love looking at people's work. It's all part of the learning process for me. From the wire, the model looks pretty clean. Do you plan on rigging this model?

Still wondering how you painted the chainmail.

I always try to take the time to reply to new posts. If I could offer even a shred of help, I feel better : )

If you have the time, could you check out my animation? I've had it up now for two days and no one seems to be downloading it :(
It's 20MB, so if your on a 56Ker, it's ok not to download ^_^

Oh missed where u asked about painting chainmail. I kind of faked it and got an actual chainmail photograph and rubber stamped it in photoshop. Just burned it where the shadows should be from overlapping armor. I downloaded your animation and will post in your thread.
