Hi

For my commercial works, I want to capture and then to import high quality Video to my PC (720x576), to edit and use for visual effects, and then export it to "VHS" and some time "DVD"(exporting to DVD is not difficult).
But I really don't know what equipments/devices I need and which way is better to do...

1- Should I use my "handycam Video Hi8" and then use a card like Pinnacle Pro one ?
If yes, then how can I export it to VHS, which software?
Because if I simply do it with a player software then the size will change and because of its size (720x576) some frames will drop…What about this?

2- Or should I use other devices to capture and import/export?

Lower price is better but if you know anything that import high quality video (Even a bit expensive) please tell me, I really appreciate it.

Thnaks

Would you be interested in using an sgi O2?

They are fairly inexpensive on eBay nowadays. An R5000 running IRIX 6.5.x is the cheapest if you have the OS media.

Import/exports video quite nicely. IIRC, it can take three video feeds at once and run effects on them in near real-time.

Crap! I just wrote a huge post and then cgtalk asked me to sign in again and I lost everything!
Here's the short version:
For high quality videos, get a good camera! More important than a good capture card!!!!!
Try Sony TRV-38 (was $1,000 but now $750-$900).
Best cheapest professional camcorder: Sony VX2000(2100)
the 3CCD on the VX2000 makes a HUGE difference!

Capture card: get one that has analog(s-video/composite) and digital (firewire). That way you can use the analog for VCR capture/export for now and then you can use the higher quality digital later when you get a miniDV camera.

Try www.adstech.com and talk to a rep. to help you out.

Most cards come with Adobe Premiere free! You can capture and export video within Premiere (the software uses the hardware to import/export).
To avoid drop frames, you want to get a fast hard drive.
I have SCSI (10,000 RPM)and they are cheaper now. I NEVER had one frame drop!
If you can't afford it, get at least a 7,200 RPM drive.
Hope this helps.
Post again if you have any other questions.

Thanks guys, sorry But I don't know why my previous post was deleted … I say it again.

Fingolfin: thanks, you told me hot information.
If this is short version, I'm interested to know what Full version was (LOL)… :applause:
I didn't know that I need a capture card for import with a DV camera too !?
I thought that I can do it only with my motherboard (asus p4c880-E) !?

Or about hard drive, I always thought that dropping frames is only depend on CPU and Ram (I have P4 2.4 and 1024MB DDR400)

Other questions:
- Can you tell me the name of some good Capture Cards that you told me or some links? It is my main need to know...
- Which format is the best for importing: "DVD, mov, avi, …"
- Which codec?

Thanks again
