View Full Version : pfx and surface proximity??
anthonymcgrath 07-15-2002, 02:23 PM I have an object, that I've been painting pfx on. I want to get the pfx strands to grow as they near the proximity of another surface creating a stretching out effect for each pfx strand so the pfx near the surface are longer than the ones further away. does anyone know how I can do this?
bear in mind, I just animate characters ppl, no good at this mel nonsense so if anyone can produce a good tutorial that would help cos I aint a clue how to tackle it!
be well and stay off the banana brockoli shakes y'all!

hehe...
1) keep your hand off pain defects as long as you can. more problems than solutions (sorry duncan but no one besides you really understands them - you rock! :buttrock: )
2) mel is no nonsense but your best friend in maya or dont you miss any tools that can be done with mel ;)
3) sorry no clue about paint fx since i stuck to rule #1
cheers

as i think about it:
you could make the splines that control the pfx soft bodies and then attach some attractor fields to the second body with a specific range and falloff value to draw the closer splines/particles to it.. that could work

I thought I'd post my reply to this on CreativeCow here as well.
The pressure curves use the distance between the pressure curve and the base stroke path to determine the pressure value. As a result you could create pressure curves for all your strokes and attach them to the surface of your second object. On your stroke nodes set the pressure mapping1 to tube length or scale(the others to OFF ). The pressure min should be set greater than the pressure max so that tube length increases as the pressure curves get closer to the stroke path curves.
