View Full Version : crashed messiah
goatman 05-02-2004, 05:10 PM Often Messiah crashes my keyboard and mouse. I usually get less than 10 minutes of work flow. I am running the demo and XP. I have a P4, radeon 9800XT graphics card
Any ideas?

I'm gonna take a wild guess and point the finger at your radeon card. I'm using a 9600 on a new system right now and just installed messiah: Studio and I get display crashes using the latest catalyst drivers.
I've had similar problems with my other 3d apps and different driver versions too.
This card came bundled with the system so I took it because I wanted to wait a couple months for the next gen Nvidia stuff to hit the streets and upgrade then.
Ati cards are horrible for 3d applications. Their drivers just suck. I use a fireGL at work, which has it's own driver set. Iit's a better card for 3d work but still has it's problems with some apps.
Yap most certain itīs the ATI card :hmm:
Heh, I just swapped the radeon out for an old geforce 4600 and messiah seems to like it. I'll use this till I can pick up a new card.
I have an olddy GeForce Ti4800, anxious awaiting for the new GeForce 6800 :buttrock:
Yeah, my 9600XT can't even finish loading messiah:Studio unless I go into the Troubleshooting tab in display settings and move the slider down to "Disable all DirectDraw and Direct3d accelerations..." Then messiah can completely initialize, and I can use it pretty well albeit slower, and with some visual artifacts. I've tried a bunch of different Catalyst drivers, and have been sending in bug reports to ATI for every release since January. Hopefully they can fix it, but I'm betting I'll be picking up an NVidia card in a few months.

Whatever the problems with ATI cards and messiah, we'd love to solve them. However, it appears that the problems aren't specific to messiah.
I remember attempting to make contact with ATI in the past to see if there was some way we could work together to narrow down the problems, but I got no response. And now I'm much too busy to help them narrow things down... even if they were to contact us. I'd do whatever I could, though, in the interest of giving our messiah users more choice;) But I certainly won't be holding my breath waiting for them to contact us.
