I wanted to check to see if you guys think I should be concerned about the rendering temps:

CPU: Dual 3.2 XEON's

Ambient room temp: 74.2 F

CPU1 - no load: 38C
CPU2 - no load: 42C

CPU1 - rendering: 60C
CPU2 - rendering: 65C

Thanks,

Jeff

well that depends
its certainly within the approved operating range
however there would be advantages to lowering it
(start with your room temperature if you can)

Hi,
60 and 65 is well within the limits. No need to be alarmed at all.

60C is to hot for me. thats my limit. you'll find that the cpu will die quicker.

it also sounds with those idle temps that u have bad case airflow.

65C seems hot... unless your room/office is real hot, I don't see how it goes that high especially when your no-load temps are nice and low.

Thanks for the info guys. I adjusted the room temperature down to around 71 and here are the results again:

Idle temps:
CPU1 - 32C
CPU2 - 35C

Loaded temps:
CPU1 - 58C
CPU2 - 60C

well I mentioned this is the other thread (link)
but it bears repeating

as a rule of thumb, for every 10C you decrease the CPU's temperature, you increase the life expectancy 100%, conversely for every rise of 10C life expectancy decreases 50%

so you have by simply reducing the room temperature
probably extended the lifespan of those chips somewhere between 25% to 50% (barring other factors) ;)

generally a pointless exercise for enterprise or the typical end user, entirely different for the animator that plans to employ obsolscent hardware in a render cluster when it no longer serves as the primary workstation ;)
