Particles seem like the easiest way to do it.

It will also depend on the size of the scene you are trying to create rain for. and how many particles you are cranking out. Another way and less memory intensive is to composite the rain you are creating. Such as rendering out the rain sequences separately using the collision settings of your planes or objects you are creating (make your objects invisible to the camera and the lights). And then adding the rain images to the frames of animation.

if it doesnt need to be too interactive, I would do it in post, in after effects, or a compositor of your choice.

Thanks for you reply's.

I read your comments but really didn't make sense too me.

I am creating an animtion, so i would need to have the rain animating, if thats possible. I am a beginner at the sort of stuff, so if you could go step by step on showing me how to achieve this that would be great.

If you're animating it, then definitely Particles. If you don't know how to use them, learn them. Combine those with hypervoxels and you have some awesome effects.

It is a good way to get used to using the particles...and the Hypervoxels is a Lightwaver's dream. You can create any effect you want...

Load the Rain demo scene.

Scenes/_Features/Particles_Dynamics/Demo_rain

You could learn from that scene and make it your own.
