Hi :)

Im beginning my third year technical illustration degree im september and am on placement at the moment until september. When i return for the 3rd year in september we begin 3d modeling using form Z or lightwave. Wasn't too difficult to decide which program to use and so I've began using lightwave.

My version at home works fine, 7.5 for the PC, but im having some problems with the version i'm using at work on the mac ...

Basically whenever i try and move an object or poly, zoom or rotate the camera or most things that are mouse movement related the object will suddenly jump across the screen or much further away from the sreen. This doesn't happen ALL the time and from my attempts to try and find out the cause seem to be random. It's pretty much never smoothly and jerk free like my copy at home on the PC.

Hopefully this is a common little issue that is an easy answer.

Also couple of questions as ive come from 3d Max

In lightwave When beveling more than on poly at a time that are adjecent, is there a way to make the adjecent polys connect rarther than making a new central poly for each poly beveled, hope that makes sence :P

Also in MAX you can select the polys, points AND the lines between the points ( been a while, i can't quite remember the correct names for them ) Is there a way to select the lines in Lightwave ??

Thanks in advance if anyone could help me out at all

Will ...

I'm not sure, but I think on the Mac you have to set the input type to tablet, even if you're using a mouse. You can do this from the display options, interface tab.

Use Smooth Shift. The numeric panel will give you some options to play with.

There is no edge selection in LW, but there are a few tools that emulate some of the benefits of having edges.

The same jumping happens to me on the G5's in the mac lab at my school. This didn't happen on the old G4's, and I just assumed it was because the processor is that much faster--it just takes too much input. I find, in modeler especially, that holding control down while I rotate or move objects seems to help.

Nope it is an issue with Panther. They changed the way the mouse works so LW can't get accurate info anymore. So changing it to tablet mode works in a fashion.
