Does playblast depend on hardware or video card....anybody know by chance? I want to make it as fast as possible!

Depends on both your video card and cpu power and memory.
It depends on CPU because you might be running scripts or expressions or dynamics or a simulations that needs to be solved every frame before it can be drawn.
Depends on the video card because the card is actually doing the rendering.
Depends on RAM because you need somplace to put your resources, and once the flipbook is done the frames are cached in RAM for playback.
Probably the CPU is still most important depending on what you are rendering. Generally the type of stuff you want to playblast can be drawn in fractions of a scend on even older video cards.
My computer broke yesterday so I had to use another computer but it seems like my mp2800's(I know only one cpu playblasts) with my 1 gig of ram and xgl 900 playblast slower than the computer I used which was a p4 at 2.8(i think) with an ATI 9700? and also 1 gig ram. It was frustrating...perhaps the 2 or 3 years I have gone without formatting my system is finally catching up with me!
