Hi, this is the first time I have posted any of my work on CGTalk.

It's a low polygon Ferrari 250 GT swb, modelled in Lightwave with a total of 9863 triangles.

The inspiration for making it came from recently playing Project Gotham 2 on the XBox.

I set myself a limit of 10000 polygons and experimented to see what could be achieved. My main aim was not to produce a photorealistic final render but to create car model that was as accurate and detailed as possible within the constraint set.

All surfaces on the car have been setup as if there were going to be used within a game engine. All textures are game legal sizes and surface shaders are set to only reflect the background image.

Hope you like it.

Very, very nice!

Very accurate and great attention to detail.

Puts a lot of hi-defs to shame.

Very cool stuff mate !

At first I didn't really believe it was "low" poly. Especially the bonnet and doorbevels work really well.

So, when are you going to post your dino ?

I have to say Mr.LB that is quite smashing! :)

jolly good show!

xtrm3d: You guessed correctly. Lightwave is the best package for low poly work (in my opinion).

Wiek: The Dino is on it's way. It just needs lighting properly.

BigErn: Why thank you sir! One tries you know :D Now when are you gonna post something???

Hehe, lightwave's renderer is good at smoothing isn't it ;)?

Nice model, well made and well rendered! Keep it up! :buttrock:

Thanks everyone for your comments. When I first posted I wasn't sure if it would be appreciated, being low polygon. But I must say I've been pleasantly surprised.

aomcaloes: Sorry mate didn't mean to forget you - your comment was probably the best of all :)

very nice work. Congrats :applause:
I only would chamfer the roundings on the back window frame 1 time. Then i would call it perfect. Its the only part where is see the low poly stuff.

Have you considered making the car available for 1 of the open source race simulations like Racer?
http://www.racer.nl/

I would love to be able to drive that dream car

Hi Lem,

I agree with your point about the back window, it does look a bit faceted. I will take a look at it when I get time.

No I hadn't thought about making the model available, but now you mention it, it sounds like an excellent idea. I was going to experiment with racing liveries from the early 1960's and think it would be really cool to see the car in action.

Looks pretty good.

Is that polycount 10k triangles or 10k quads, though?

It looks dead sexy.

thats f'king sweet man, are your sure its tri's not quads though, it looks so damn smooth.

Hi Ghostscape & samgrice. I just loaded the car into Modeler and the exact Poly count is 9913 triangles.

Cheers,

Here are some variations of the model.

I added them to the thread a couple of months ago, but CGTalk got hacked and the post was lost.

I'd like to say I've been on the racer forums at racesimcentral and you're a very good modeler. You should post it for download to be used in the game racer. The car uses a data file called a performance .ini which models the cars performance characteristics. If you can get someone to make one or make one yourself it'd be great. Well,so much for that, It's a great model , what other cars w/pedigrees in motoring history will / have make/made?

PES: Thanks a lot - glad you liked it (as well as the Dino).

jasbakleo: I have spent some time looking at Racer and would be keen to see my car running - it's really just a matter of me finding the time to sort it out. As for other cars, I have a number of projects on the go in various states of completion from the 1930's, 60's and 70's.

Cheers,

LB.

Hi LB,
they look fantastic.
A friend of mine want to do some small uncommercial racing game. I already made 1 car for him and it could use an enemy to drive against :)

Would you be interested?

Would you be interested?Hi Lem,

sorry I didn't reply sooner, I've been kind of busy with my other thread on Hosted. Yes I am interested. It would be nice to see some screenshots of my 250 in-game. What car did you make for him? Have you got any images?

LB.
