View Full Version : Evolution - EBKen's concepts
EBKen 04-27-2004, 08:35 PM hi all.
here are my quick first sketches. i know, some of them don't really fit the limitations, but better to work that out later. i only have time to develop two or three of them, starting with #4, because eltazar has already picked it :D. so if anyone wants one of these developed, better ask for it.
See below for more sketches

wow. Those are cool and would make neat maquettes. To solve your prob with the image thing...
instead of the "[html]yaddayadda[/hmtl]" use img in place of html.
where yaddayadda = the links you've posted.
or ask a mod to do it for ya.

If you can post some orthos of the little girl with the pumpkin on her head, I may be able to squeeze her into my modeling schedule. :)

i'll try to get the halloween girl drawn for you ASAP. not promising anything though, i also have a schedule :P
i've changed them to image tags, here are the ones i couldn't fit in:

Cool, I look foward to the little lady. In the meantime, the character with the skulls mask and chain in the Bruce Timm style would be easy enough for me to draw my own orthos to work from. I had just started a model in this style on Saturday but it's legs are longer than his. Again, cool concepts. be back in a week or so with some pics.

$#%#$^ fixed now.
teyon: that would be really cool - but as i understand it, for our entry to be valid, won't i have to complete orthos for the chain guy? i don't think i'd have time for that.
more or less finished front view of the voodoo guitarist, so you guys know what to expect.

Judging from the replies I got about my question (If I could also make Clara - Pumpkin Girl, next to Teyon), before the forum got restored. That it shouldn't be a problem, so I guess I'll be modelling her then aswell. :)

Alright here's a little update on my take for Clara - the pumpkin girl... Quite a few things aren't done yet and there's still a bit of tweaking to do on the mesh so that it'll smooth out better in some places.
Anyway...

I hope I'm doing her justice so far :D

That is too funny. I love the hair detail at the pigtails. Such a funny character. Could you please post wires for us? Oh, and is the hair a separate model from the head, or are they connected? Really great work there,

Mechis - Thanks, the hair right now is a seperate model, intersecting with the head and it's a closed mesh. Which should be fine for the final model. Wire's below...

those look awesome guys!
serul: man, your pumpkin looks even better than mine! did you try modelling the eyes as holes, like rhino did? i think it would look better, and the eyes as you've done them would probably vanish when printed (unless you're planning on painting them back on). you might also want to make the wings and hairclip a bit thicker.
-Ken
Serul
05-17-2004, 12:10 PM
EBKen - Thanks! :) I'm actually still a little unhappy with the pumpkin in a few places, but that'll be fixed later on.
I actually modelled the eyes as holes, but placed the sphere's to see what that would look like, guess I kind of forgot to remove them again. :D The wings and hairclip will be looked at. :)
By the way, did you have an idea for the final pose yet? Or is that the one where she holding her arms forward, or the one in color on the model sheet?
digital_rhino - Starting to look good, keep it up!

Azazel, whilst looking at my new desk top image , whilst doing some boring work of converting files i finally noticed what it was that was bugging me about the voodoo, guy
its the belt and loin cloth area, are you still completing these, are they still WIP
attached the desktop btw:bowdown:

Belt and loincloth were still wip when i posted that image, now they look bit better (hopefully :)). Probably i'll push the cloth details a bit more, to make sure it prints correctly ;).

serul: actually the pose i thought was best was the one she's standing in in the model sheet. i WAS gonna have her arms out in front like in the original sketch, but it didn't 'feel' as good. partially because with her arms down, the lines of her arms point towards her face, focusing attention there. but pose her however you want :P.
azazel: looking great, man! the navel should probably be a big bigger.

Update time... The dress is still temp, the feet and hands need a little more work and the tail and pigtails need finishing.
http://www.streamline-studios.com/jeroen/wip_clara_02.jpg
And here is a nice hires one LINK (http://www.streamline-studios.com/jeroen/wip_clara_02_hires.jpg) :D
Azazel - Looking real nice!
EBKen - I like the one on modelsheet the most aswell, but I'll fiddle around with some poses just for fun. :) By the way if you ever feel like it or have the time, could you come up with a nice looking base for the charater to stand on? If you like that idea anyway :)
wow more great stuff. I hope you guys are definately making a living doing CG cause you guys are great modellers!!!
Wonderful work.
I hope you guys have a story to tell with your characters.
are you working on any indie films or anything?
azazel
05-18-2004, 10:11 PM
Made rough rig.... let's just say it barely works. Loincloth has to be hand-adjusted by lattice deformer for every pose. But for one, final pose it'll hopefully do, and i'll make a proper rig later on.

@Serul & azazel
Wow -
Both of these look really great. y'all did an excellent job at translating the 2D style into 3D. They both hold up well I think!
azazel - i dunno, but i think it'd be neat to see the spines of the feathers... and maybe even another layer of shorter feathers behind the front ones

05-20-2004, 03:34 PM
Serul~ freakin great, she's adorable, just maybe add some folds or something in the dress, i know its flat in the drawing, but i think it would add alot.
azazel~ beautiful, love the pose, looks like clay already.
man i need to get to work. ahhhh!
great work guys.
Serul
05-21-2004, 02:36 PM
Still wip, but the end is in sight. The tail and pigtails are still under constrution, when those are done I'll look into adding more surface detail here and there to simulate the scales. Furthermore I remodelled the hands, tweaked the feet, finished (well almost) the dress... and yeah that's about it for now... to be continued...
http://www.streamline-studios.com/jeroen/wip_clara_03.jpg
BIG version (http://www.streamline-studios.com/jeroen/wip_clara_03_hires.jpg)
Flog - Thanks! I actually do :D, well somewhat anyway...
azazel - Ah yes rigging something I also will be doing. Looking good!
SpaceJASE - Thanks!
onelung - Thanks. I was planning on adding the folds, the dress was still temp, not finished, I did say that ;) . But the folds are there now. :D

Serul i just have to coment on your model. I realy like it and how you are presenting it. For some reason that green along with her character goes so well and i dont knwo why I like it so much. So i thought i would post and tell you it is cool, and the charcater is great. Only crit, it looks like you have a whole in her dress at the bottom and back, if that is supposed ot be a rip or somehting then i sugest making it look more natural and add a few poly or something. but that is it. Good job man and good luck with the comp.

I hope no one minds me doing this but this isn't really a competition entry. I thought that all the characters together would make one cool game so I decided to model clara low poly. She's 2200 polys, fully rigged, even with ear, hair and wing controls(little excessive for a game model). Flat polys will be for alpha maps. Probably abotu 14 hours work all up, might do a walk cycle now. Not hte best quality image but....
http://www.users.on.net/muppatz/Adam/clara_post.jpg
I suppose its a little to late to enter teh competition for real. Would have loved to do the second pic with the two clowns but....oh well.
azazel
05-25-2004, 08:44 AM
Very nice lowpoly model, DrAdamDinosaur. But alpha maps won't print correctly, so if you want to enter, you'd have to model that stuff.

wow guys, this looks totally badass! sorry i never designed a base for you, azazel - i might have time to do so after the competition. the current base looks alright, but you might want to give it a bit of slope, so the bottom is a larger diameter than the top, if you know what i mean.
also, would it be possible to tilt his torso back any further? it looks like you've attached his dreads to the ground, so balance shouldn't be a problem. if you can imagine him jamming, he's just hit a high note and is in total nirvana.

i was wondering if i could model the clown character (the second concept- clown with hat and another clown (tongue?) coming out of his moth)
so if u could make concepts it would be great.

sorry, we were talking about software I used... so maybe i'll answer miloszwl's questions in english.
Hair is actually done by Hair Department plugin for c4d - and some manual tweaking in wings, after the pose was done.
I started modelling from the very simple 'basic body' model i have, it's just faster that way (but i should update that model a bit, it has some problems). The mask started from the extruded shape.
To conclude: model is done in wings, hair is partially c4d, partially wings, render is c4d.
PS, nice stuff on your site miloszwl :)

WOW. Just WOW. You guys are absolutely amazing. I'm totally blown away by the incredible DETAIL you've managed to get in your models, not to mention the fantastically creative character designs themselves! I need to hang around here more often, I was feeling all down and bored with the assignments my proffessor gives us to do, but seeing the level you all have gotten to, I just want to get out there and practice practice practice till I can crank out totally AMAZING models like that! Thanks for the lift and inspiration guys, and good luck with the contest!

it would be nice to have some of those models printed on SLA or get it 3D printed and then colour them by hand with paint.
