Hello

I have a problem with my viewports. When start a new scene, the default clippin plane is always set to 10. I have to manually go into each viewport and set them back to 1000.

Is there a way to set it so it goes back to the default 1000 on new scenes?

any help would be appreciated

Hi,

You can always do "Save Preferences",

but if this doesnt work
You can visit the wonderfull page of Bryan Ewert

www.ewertb.com

he has a mel section where he describes how to set up a mel script with the settings you want maya to start
(for example blue lambert instead)

or

if you open the attr editor for your perp camera
in the up right side there is a presets icon
set the camera the way you want and then save a preset,
or many presets for every common project.
Then,next time you fire up maya you can always go to the
attr editor and load the preset you want.

All the Best,

-Dennis

I'm having this problem with maya6.0 and it's annoying me. Everytime I open the progam, the cameras are set to near clip: .03 far clip: 32.808. I have no idea how they got like this. In the settings and prefrences under Cameras, the default is set to .1 and 1000. Yet they don't reflect this. It really bugs. Deleting my prefs will probably fix it, but I hate doing that. Any other ideas on this problem. I tried the above suggestion, but it didn't work. I have to go in manually and select each preset.

I did the presets thing, but had to add a shelf button so I wouldn't have to manually set each camera when I startup. There has to be a setting in one of the pref files to fix this, but I'm tired of looking for it. Here's the simple info if anyone is intereted:

applyPresetToNode "|top|topShape" "" "" "topShape" 1;
applyPresetToNode "|front|frontShape" "" "" "frontShape" 1;
applyPresetToNode "|side|sideShape" "" "" "sideShape" 1;
applyPresetToNode "|persp|perspShape" "" "" "perspShape" 1;

You can change this in your Maya 6 camera preferences. Window/Settings Preferences/Settings/Cameras, a nice little addition:thumbsup:

Thanks for the tip Muncher, but I was aware of that, and it doesn't seem to have any effect on my system. Like I said before:

In the settings and prefrences under Cameras, the default is set to .1 and 1000. Yet they don't reflect this. It really bugs.

Apologies Brettzies, didnt read your post thoroughly enough, so you're saying your scene wont use your default settings? I have mine set at .001 and 10000 respectively, then hit save preferences in the file menu. This seems like odd behavior.

Hmm, something isn't right that's for sure. However, if I set the defaults to .001 and 10000 it does seem to work better on startup. I can at least see the grid. Although, if I click on a camera and bring up the attributes, the far clips are still set with a number (328084), and the decimal just moves depending on what the clipping plane defaults are set to in the prefs. IE 328.084, etc.

This isn't right though. I don't know where it's getting this set of numbers from, 328084, but it screws up the defaults. If I go in and manually set each of the four default cameras to .001 and 1000, everything is as it should be. However, it should automatically do this. Very annoying. Ten thousand is too much to start. I prefer to increase clipping as needed. Thanks for the help though.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!! Muhahahhahaha

I asked one of my co-workers this morning. An ex engineer. He said 328084 is feet. Somehow, my prefs got set to feet. Not sure how or why, must have been a file I opened. Anyway, setting it back to centimeters fixed everything and the Camera defaults in the Prefrences window now works!

Yay! The simple things in life like clipping planes and grid make me happy.:)
