looks like a character i'd run into deep into one of the caves in a final fantasy game...except less wierd ;) animation is fluid. make him do something else if u wanna showcase your animation talents. the waving arms thing just left me wondering what u were trying to achieve.
overall, like stated perviously, good cartoony feel.

I like the feel of the design...
CRIT:
- the timing on the arms is oscilating...vary the timing from arm to arm, do not let the arms mimic each other...
- the arms also look like giant rakes attached to his body...the arms have an elbow joint, use it!
- you can get some good motion from the head, so try adding animation to the head...
Again, I like the direction of you design...and if you are gonna go cartoony then GO CARTOONY...don't hold back [cause it is easier to tone it down than add more later]

actually this was done for a ps2 game, and under
a production schedule(he floats around some dungeons chasing you n stuff).. so I was lucky to fit in what you see here.
But I like your Ideas, I think I might just go ahead and improve him just to make him look better, I've never really been an "animator" but heck.. i'm down to give this guy a go!
Hmm... anyone have any ideas as to what I could/should add to the animation(aside from the head moving, I know that is needed). Cuz I cant really think of anything else but having his arms waving, hehe

here are a few things that i think could add to it:
1. as bentllama said, use the elbows!
2. he's got some scary hands, so animate the fingers so they have subtle movements.
3. since you are now animating the elbows, try having them go down, but keep the upper arms and forearms in a kind of V shape so your hands are pretty much higher in the air. look at the herdy herdy box, the monster in the background is kinda in a pose thats similar to what im describing, except bring his elbows down a bit a there ya go.
well, enough of me walking around the apartment trying to act all ghost like and figure out how to explain it to ya. have fun!!

I'm definately into the style of this character. As far as modeling and textureing goes, I think you've nailed the look your going for. Now for the crit.
One of the best advice to give is to actually act out the part of the character your animating. It may sound silly, and I'm sure you'll get the looks to prove it, but acting out the motion really does help. As your bobbing back and forth, being all the scary sheet you can be, try to think about what parts of your body are moveing, close your eyes if it helps, then open them, run to a mirror and watch yourself.
Some advice as far as what to do animation wise, would go as followed. Think of a bobber in the water. (bobber- that thing you put at the end of a fishing line, I think) Have your character float up and down, almost etherally. Pretend your treading water. Also, have the "sheet" around him reflect that movement. As far as the arms racking up and down, make it seem either more violent, or more casual. Let the arms drift with the body bobbing motion, or simply make them rake angerly at the screen. Hope this helped. Oh, another thing that might help, though kind of extreme, is to get a stopwatch and time the movements. It'll help with timeing and such.
