darylart 07-13-2002, 09:18 PM hi all.
new to the forum, one of those lurking types. got a pic done, thought of posting it here hoping for some feedback and exposure. dunno what to think of it really, there are moments Im pleased with it, and other moments when Im not. the farther away from the monitor the better it looks ;).

Overall it looks pretty nice. As far as the concept...eh, its alright. The textureing is pretty good, a little minimalistic if anything. Perhaps you could dirty some things up. Add some wear and tear. The character looks like he doesn't have any eyebrows at the moment. There also seems to be something wrong with his eyelids. It looks like you might have too vivid of colors in the eyes as well, but the rest of the eyes look great (specularity, wetness). And last and probably least, with the size of the scar on his right eye, i would think that maybe that eye would droop a little, or be squinty, or even open a little wider, just something to show more permanent damage and perhaps damage to the actual eye itself, but thats just a personal suggestion.
All in all, a very nice looking piece.

I like it.
The one thing I noticed right away was that the huge eye scar was done with a bump map. Big details like that always look better modeled. Leave bump mapping for pores and small wrinkles.

thanks for your replies!
JFrench - minimalistic texturing - true true.. actually its my first hand made textured head and I guess I was bit too cautious and hold back too much. I also think some got lost when I did some editing on the final render in PS.. wear and tear, agree. lack of eyebrows - yep Im aware :).. thought I could get away with that since he's a fictional design. dunno what you mean with something looking wrong with the eyelids tho. and about the scar, yep I should have put more effort into it. thought of having his eye iris in another color, like grey or something, for a dead eye etc. but I skipped it.
Scott - thanks. I was actually surprised that the scar could look this good using a bump map. but you're prolly right, it would look better modeled.
cheers.
