View Full Version : RenderPal: are there others?
Shayder 04-26-2004, 10:51 PM I would like to buy something like renderpal (the site seems to be down) is there any other comparable software package out there? This is for a Mac as well. I like renderpal because it seems easy to use for a non-tech guy like my self.
Thanks

RenderPal is great (however I’ve only used a demo version). I have used/tested most all of the net renders out there, and would say RenderPal seemed the most artist friendly, without giving up functionality.
I also use Smedge alot (not sure if it's available for the Mac), it’s nice and streamlined, and pretty easy to use. I think Smedge is made more for larger productions.
I also used to use Frame Booster (PC only) on till Dirk Bialluch stopped support. Dirk is an awesome mel scripter by the way. One of the cool features of Frame Booster is it was launched in Maya. It would be great if RenderPal and Smedge could be launched from Maya or stand alone.
And there are probably 6 more net renders over at Highend3d
to try.
Hope this helps.

Dunno which work on OSX, but...
The big ones are Muster, Smedge, and Rush. I just set up a Rush renderfarm at my school, and I dig it, kind of a bit to wrap your head around if you're not used to scripting, but it's pretty neat.
There's also MayaNetRender, which is available on Highend3d, but may be only for Windows...

RenderPal is really nice... for the pr0s as well as for the n00bs. Their page is up again (a new one!), and they've had some big updates...

RenderPal is in British Pounds, of all currencies.. why..oh..why does it have to be in one which triples the price.
For those who render multiple files, and across a network..RenderPal is great I've heard. I personally just write my .bat files and goto sleep for my lovely TGA goodness to be ready in the morning.

Hm I paid with Euro, which is the currency they use... you can select the currency in their shop I think.
