I have a problem.... none of my maya commands work unless they are invoked from the option box. Some commands, such as polygons->combine don't have an option box.. and therefore don't work at all. I think the problem may have come from a recent installation and subsequent uninstallation of litestep (stupid pretty boy program!!) . Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem. I think the fix will require a maya reinstall, but if anyone knows of any other way... please let me know, thanks.

delete all your preferences (make a backup before) and give it a try - maya will rebuild your preferences from scratch

on w2k your prefs are stored in

D:\Documents and Settings\[username]\My Documents\maya\4.0\prefs

unload all plugins

that's just a guess
