Well, just to post some concepts I've been working on for a fantasy type game. All the pics are done in Bic pen in my notebook and the ones that have color are done in Photoshop and Open Canvas (GOD I LOVE THAT PROGRAM!). It's kind of like a steam-punk deal but a little less drastic in that format. I'm going to include a sketch page that has a bit of everything on it from random characters to what the aircraft look like at the bottom in URL format since it's pretty large. There's more at my site.

Monet, full wood-elf noble. Still a work in progress as far as the coloring goes.

Minka, a cat-like race called Sovielle.

Tyson, a Sovielle also who's an antagonist but more like a rival antagonist rather than an evil villain antagonist.

Khal'at Teireny, a wood-elf captain in the military who's a sniper. This is him in dress uniform

Taka, a race of reptilian type creatures.

No replies is mostly bad luck or not having kissed ass enough :P
Since this is the WIP forum it might help if you pick one and work on that one ^^)

Other than that, nice concepts and drawing style :)

your work definitely does not suck. maybe just overlooked.

I like the style & concepts. my only crit is the concept of the wood-elf. its a personal thing, the attitude is good - but i'd rather see something more elegant for a wood-elf.

GJ on all your concepts though.

dont worry you dont suck ass but there 2 factor why ppl dont receive much answer

1- cgtalk ia a huge forum, not everyone have time to answer every thread
2- your art is good , thecnicaly but it is some "already-used-stuff"
and a bit confusing in the flow

for example. im sorry but i cant see anything that link to a wood elfe in Khal'at Teireny, except for the long ear

you know when you hear wood elfe there alway stereotype who com to your mind. ;LOTR wood elf ' ( legolas would be the best example) brown "skirt" long bow and green stuff

no offense but here the best lesson i've learn in all my life

"dont try to reinvent the wheel

naturaly it if you REALLY whant to stick to wood elfe theme, cuz they can be any type of elfe.

same problem occur with the noble. look more like some goth elfe who listen a bit too much of evanescence...
no noble at all

other thing which i notice first. is the TAKA. try to make them as far as you can from the EVA-01 design
i mean the shape of the the head is good (look like a creepy turlte ;) ) except when you look at the mouth.
im sorry but really look like you took it from.
its not a crime to be "inspired" i just try to point you what doesnt look right so you get better :D thats what crit are for !!

and BTW Minka and tyson rock IMO you should elaborate more on then.
minka's concept have this "zen" feeling in it why i like very much

the fold on her coat is very well done

i think this it it.... man ! i wrote too much ! lol

hope it will help

Mage111> Yeah, I'm currently thinking about the way the "true" nobles look. I'm looking more towards traditional elven garb and stoicness (is that a word?) towards their designs.

Thanks for the response, what I'm trying to get is a more modern feel with a mix of the style of 30's to 40's for the military look. It's kind of like a steam-punk setting that's dragging in fantasy type creatures more into a early 20th-low-tech feel. Magic is all but dead in some parts as is religion and only few practice such beliefs. Monet, the wood-elf chick is more of a rebel who's going against her family's wishes and actually runs away with a pilot when his kingdom decrees a basic draft for anyone with an airship. Her family looks down on him as a lowly peice of trash half-elf but she loves him. She's noble by blood, rebel by nature. I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel, just trying to add some tread for traction. :)

Khal'at's pic is a miltary dress uniform and he serves beside humans, half-elfs and whatever else comes through. Part of a uniform is to make them uniform in fashion. The only thing that would stand out would be the fact that he has long ears. The elves I design look a little different than humans in the face but not by much. I'm also trying to show that their societies (human, elf, half-elf, etc.) have become pretty much one society in the story though there are still certain differences. There's another group of elves that have the more slanted eyes and they're the spirit elves that are in the link in the bottom of my last post (as is the initial design of Tyson's airship). They're designed to look a bit more alien. For some reason whenever I think of slanted eyed elves now I always get that kid from the System of a Down video "Aerials" in my head and it just turns me off from drawing them like that for some reason.

Yeah, there was some evangeleon coming through on taka though on his head but it ends there. The body type is completely different than anything that came from that and I'm hoping to change the head enough to where it's more than that. They're more secondary characters anyways at this point in the storyline.

Oh well, time for bed.

G'night all and thanks for the comments. I'll post a new colored pic of Minka (the second one) when I get to work tomorrow since that's where she's at.

These are maybe not the most original concepts, but they are still very nice...I very much like your idea to give it a 1930-1940 look, those times rocked! maybe try adding some "roaring twenties" elements, and play some Jazz while your at it! ;p

I look forward to a colored version...

Nice work

"Minka, a cat-like race called Sovielle." is freakin' awesome!

The rest seem like stuff I seen before, particularly Taka looks like some Spinefinger art I've seen. Nevertheless, quality stuff, better than me at 2d. :)

Thanks guys for all your comments, they're helpful and I've decided to take Taka back to the drawing board for a redesign. Haven't started working on that yet but hopefully sometime shortly.
In the meantime, here's a WIP of minka's color.

the only thing i see wrong is probably the anatomy and perspective of your characters position, which i am working on right now.

Ludovicus> thanks for the comments, I'll post a detail on the eye below. Still a WIP on that.

zao75231> Can you provide details? Just stating something in general doesn't really help. If you're talking about Monet's right, back foot I already know about that. It's hard to fix BIC pen errors.

I really don't like the way her hair is coming out. If anyone has any suggestions on another technique please give me some suggestions.
