View Full Version : Unexplained crash
squeige 04-26-2004, 03:21 AM ok I converted my model to subds, all quads everything looks ok,
I assigned 2 approx nodes with all the right settings, applied a displacement map and when I hit render maya just closes the app completely no warnings no errors nothing
Ive conformed the normals on my model, and my tesselation when rendering without a disp map is about 40k poly`s
It seems displacement and my subd doesn`t work right... any ideas?

it's probably running out of memory, try batch rendering instead.

Did you optmize your scene before rendering?

hey emmortal do u have an msn accnt so i can send u my scene maybe u can help me figure this one out cause i am soo stuck on this one
Can someone help me, I'm having the same error squeige posted. I'm going nuts, nothing is working. I tried optimizing, exporting to a new scene, batch rendering. It just gives me the same error.
Help please!

Have you tried rendering .. WITHOUT .. the approx nodes to see what might happen? Or try doing it as just a poly object and NOT converting to subD to see what it does as well?
I've found, for some odd reason, that approx. nodes can mangle things a little bit. I've used approx nodes for displacement, they work.. but I have a hard time getting them to NOT sizzle which pisses me off. They do look BETTER in a whole with the approx on, more detail, more accurate.. but, for some reason they just have this nasty sizzle in the animation. Rendering without the approx, quality lacks a bit, but its not bad by any means, however.. there is no sizzle effect...
Try turning things off and doing different stuff before just throwing your arms in the air. Before you conver to subd, did you try exporting the poly model to an OBJ and then re-importing? thats tended to fix "broken" models that i can't find any reason why they are breaking my scenes. as an example, I was rendering a dirtmap pass that was taking about 10 hours a frame. It was ungodly heavy and I dont know why. I didn't mess with anything, no cameras, nothing, just simply turned raytracing on and hit render. I am rendering several scenes with the same subject with dirtmap and they all render in about a minute, give or take... I took my render camera, deleted it... imported a camera from a previous version... and for some stupid reason, it now renders in about 1 minute. Completely uncalled for and unknown as to what was corrupt about that current camera, but... it works now... Hope this information is helpful in some fashion...

azshall: It's mee replying for help. My scene doesn't have an approx. I try rendering a rigged character and it gives me this error:
DB 0.0 fatal 041008: attempt to access null DB tag
DB 0.0 fatal 041008: attempt to access null DB tag
DB 0.0 fatal 041008: attempt to access null DB tag
DB 0.0 fatal 041008: attempt to access null DB tag
I'm using Poly. I've imported camera, deleted extra nodes, imported the scene to a newer scene, etc etc. it just doesn't work, :banghead: :banghead:
:scream:
What does this error mean anyway??
