The Story:

A small group of Scientist thought it'd be a good experiment to see what a plant would do if they set up a mechanical water reservoir that when triggered by certain signals from the plant would release the nourishing liquid. After great success they added to the program to give the plant the option of creating it's own reservoirs out of the minerals found in the surrounding soil. Again, success, the program was vastly altered to allow the plant to change itself and its surroundings for many situations. That's when things took an ugly turn.
Late one night janitor Bob made the disturbing discovery that the plant was not completely within its container. Its roots breached the counter, waterpipes under the sink, and went into the floor. Upon this finding the plant was immediately burned and set aside while they worked on destroying the massive root system. A couple hours later somebody noticed new growth in the container of the burned plant. They were instructed to burn it...but when they tried it was able to resist fire! There was noticeable metallic sheen to this new plant. After seeing this the scientist knew the root system was possibly out-stretced further than the building they were conducting the study. Military was called to action and in the following months the plant started appearing near industrial parks and coal power plants. The public was scared and the hope that they could stop the plant\plants was smothered. Everybody watched day by day with increasing worry as the plants start cropping up 5 to 10 feet tall around large processing industries. A few days later the plant would be 20 to 30 feet tall and tendrals would form what appeared to be a dome of arms arcing its main stem over the smokestacks of these buildings. Scientist, amazed, continued to study the lifeform and soon realized that the plants were helping! There was great rejoice from the peoples as the determination was made that the huge plants were using their umbrella-like tops to catch harmfull smoke and waste and convert it into life-giving oxygen. Everything went great for years as the plants ridded the world of pollution. There were hundreds of thousands of these plants in all cities...major and small. The only trouble they ever brought was when they'd grow up from the road or into the side of a building causing structural damage. And then one day...

Hiya Snotblow,

Love the idea and definately love your scetching style. Would like to see more of the machine side. With a tree that size would it be converting waste and solar into energy, could power the cities aswell??

Good luck dude

ooohh boy...ok the coloring part....I'm new to this digital painting stuff...unfortunately I only have a mouse and photoshop to work with. I'm looking for a painterly finish to the piece...a soft and smeered look. If there's anyone with any tips out there that works for them I'd be interested in hearing them...

Thank you Element5 and Thool for your comments...In answer to your question Element5 the plant/machine does take in waste and converts it to a useable resource and has a possiblity of providing electricity but as the story progresses our viewers find out that the plant sees humans as waste and there-by destroys and coverts humans into a useable resource....it's a slow process but eventually the plant takes over as "top of the food chain". As my composition suggests I'm looking at creating a a city devoid of humans.

Hey there Snotblow,

I would hate to be asleep when this tree decided to recycle me, its like a huge venus flytrap ;)

Warped and disturbing.... I like it.

I like your idea of nature fighting back, scary thought but in the end its almost inevitable considering the crap we pull on nature. Just wondering about the composition, are you planning on creating a composition based on your current sketches or do you have something else in mind?

An indoor scene would be intersting seeing the tentacles busting through walls and windows of chemical factory or a shopping mall and attacking everything in sight. You could have the people being processed up in the branches of the tree inside weird looking pods sort of like a biomechanical production line. Freaky idea, keep up the good work.:bounce:

Yes something I'd like to add also =)
its looking very good so far - but if you are thinking of a deserted city with only the plants there, maybe let them grow through streets, buildings and the like.
Nature finds it way and wont stop at the concrete :D Just an idea .
Also some little birds and a hint to other wildlife would be nice if you think of a jungle like feeling in that city.
Keep it up ! :)

Ok...here we go...I think this composition is much more interesting than my previous. It also lends itself the the perspective of heighth that I was trying for in the prior composition. Critiques are welcome.

Also I apologize if I have not been responding to my thread. I'm not able to check very often....so have patience with me...I eventually make it online to look from time to time....outta here
