Regards all,
I find for some reason maya and mental ray crash when I use 16 bit tiffs in the displacment node on a shader. My workaround is to convert to iff with imgcvt. Unfortunately the tages photoshop adds freak out maya as well (I have to open it in PS to convert from grayscale to rgb) so the final step I open in fcheck and resave. The issue is it seems to resave as an 8 bit file instead of 16. Is there a flag to change this? when I type imgcvt /? and fcheck /? I get nothing by way of useful flags.
I would use the photoshop iff filter but at home and at school it fails to save. Not sure if this is a bug or what.
