this seems like one of those things thats should be right in front of me. I scowered the rendering manual time and time again and its not there?- is it in the render globals? Im on a mac, maybe that has something to do with it.

this is driving me crazy cause its sooo dumb...

Haha! I hate it when something like that happens.

Window > Settings/Preferences > Preferences

Then choose Settings on the left to set the overall frame rate on the right. Then if you choose Timeline on the left, there are more options related to framerate playback on the right.

I just had this problem. But my problem is that I'm playblasting at 24, which I want. Then I do a full avi render, and it renders at 30. Anyone had this problem?

Yes, everyone will have this problem everytime, because Maya's AVI files are always 30fps movies, no matter which frame rate you've set at the preferences.
So do as all wise people do: use the forum search feature first ;) and render a sequence of single frames that you can compose in another app (-> virtualdub.org)

I found this thread using the forum search. :p Thanks for the info though Randolph. Nice to know it's just an AVI issue. I rendered a few to test motion blur and nearly had a heart attack. :)
