Hi all

Just wondering if anyone out there uses Photoshop to put produce presentation drawings from their AutoCAD drawings?

At the moment I use CorelDraw for this but am not convinced of the final quality of the image.

1) I have tries to plot to .eps from AutoCAD but this brings everything into Photoshop on 1 layer. How do I use it then? Do I need to draw paths over all the items and fill/texture from there?

2) I can go via CorelDraw then export to a .psd to get all the layers but how do I use them then. Can I select the linework for each individual item (ie: walls, trees, etc) and then fill with a colour?

Thanks

Paul

What I have found is you are going to have to make many different eps exports and rebuild the file in Photoshop....You should also make sure to include some kind of guide line or cross hair in every export so you can realign the layers correctly. Corel worked well but I like the control and detail I can put into a the file with photoshop. I have been doing this a while so If you have any other questions just ask.

Hey Djishere

Thanks for the reply!!

Some more questions:

1) So do you export each layer individually to eps?

2) Once in PS how do you use the layers to create fills/textures? Do you trace over the linework to create paths and fill them?

Yeah we currently use Corel at work for Landscape Architectural plans but I feel that Photoshop offers more options and particularly for the filters gives a much higher quality finish.

I do some of this kind of work too. Maybe if you gave us a link to some of your previous work so that we get an idea of what you are trying to accomplish.

I use one layer for line work and then multiple layers of colors witt layer maskes to color the ares of the drawing. I export line work directly form CAD either as TIFF or EPS. I have found that EPS gives better lineweight then TIFF, but if thats not an issue you cant try using a TIFF.
