Hello all,

I'm pretty new to all this 3D......and it's amazing. I'm trying to create some realistic chrome and i want to apply it to text, my questions are.......First have text i want to bring in from Illustrator (eps) can i use the simple bevel tools to extrude that text? If so on a letter like an "o" you select the outer ring of the "o" and click bevel and it does what i need it will angle the bevel in towards the center of the letter, how can i get the center ring of a letter "o" to bevel in the reverse or "out" towards the outer ring so i can planar between the 2? Second.......after i have nice text i can't seem to get the front face of it to look like chrome....the sides all look chrome but the front appears to be just solid white, even if i have things that will reflect modeled, am i crazy. And third, sorry to all who answer for my long questions.......How can i map a reflection so i don't have to model things to reflect, i have no idea but know it can be added to a material. What do you suggest is a good way to get this reflection map to be non-descript (i want that wavy chrome, you know what i mean), is there something i should make in photoshop or is it all created in hypershade. I know I know.....I want to know alot but this is the LAST one i promise....... is there a way to scale things from the center in, like lets say i want to build my own bevel i start with my outer most curve lets use an "s" for example if i duplicate and scale that s it just makes it smaller.......i want to scale it from the curves in not making the "s" smaller but making the "s" more "inset" - if you will, from the original .

Thank you SOOO much to all and anyone that helps me out. Please explain how to acheive these tasks as if i never used maya before, who knows what i may overlook that you may think is straight forward.

I dont have maya right now so i can make mistakes if i'll try to guide you. Bt you should learn how to apply a Reflection Map using a file image to be reflected.
This could help you:

Good luck and welcome to this world ;)

Cheers.

For quick, really nice metal I use "metal presets v1.0" from Pixho.

You can find them at

You don't even need to ray trace to get great results,
although if you do ray trace it also adds to the realism

The creater of these shaders kicks butt.
