When i worked in 3ds, or even in xsi if you give your light fall off, you can visually see were the fall off ends. the light has a radius you can see in the viewport. does anyone know of a script or plugin on how to do this in maya?

I'm not sure if this works with all Maya lights, but I know it works with Spotlights at least.

1. Select the light

2. Press 't' on the keyboard which is the shortcut for "Use Manipulator". The Manipulator shows visual feedback of attributes you're editing for different things like lights or cameras.

Now, at first it probably sets you to working on the Intensity or direction of the light, but by clicking on this little.....sticky-outy-yellow-thing it changes what attribute you're adjusting, hence changing the onscreen controls.

You'll get the hang of it I think!

Use a volume light. Its shows exactly where it stops

There is something in the light called an intensity curve. You can use this to make custom decays. Its just a curve with intensity graphed over distance. You can even have the intensity go up and down over the distance like you can do with any animation curve. You can use this on any light that uses position and not just vector info.
