View Full Version : Installing old Blur Studios Plugins
thrasherstudios 04-22-2004, 02:33 AM Hey everybody
I am trying to install the plugins
Electric.dlt and Blurlib.dlu
from Blur Studios. I have placed them both in my plugins folder but when I try and run Max I get this message for each
"DLL <C:/....plugins/Electric.dlt> failed to initailize
The specific module could not be found"
The instructions for installing the plugins said to just copy them into plugins folder, now these are some pretty old plugins, so maybe things have changed in Max 6 as to how these types of plugins should be installed. Anyone got any ideas
Thanks

Did you get them from http://www.blur.com/Tech/blurbeta_plugin_old ?
If those plugins were released for max6, then it should work..I dont really use the blur plugins (Except a handy few. And I know for a fact that eletric works!)

Autarkis thanks for the reply
if you know these plugins work with Max 6 could you tell me where you installed them, and explain what that error message is all about, I am trying to do the tutorial from Allen Mckay, the lava tut and I need to get electric.dlu working, any help would be appreciated
Maybe you still have a Max 5 plugin, try and download it again from their site.
And the dir is c:\3dsmax6\plugins\.
Just the 'plugins' subdir of the max root.

actually its best to put the blurlib.dlu in the plugins folder and the rest of the plugins in a blur folder and add that to your plugin path. Some of the errors are because the plugins depend on the blurlib.dlu to be loaded first. Also all the electric plugin is a noise map with modified color map (see the attached image).

Yeah basically blurlib.dlu is the file you need to get them to work.
Some of them won't necessarily work well in max 6 as they 'may' need to be recompiled.
I'm heading over to blur this afternoon so I'll ask em what the deal is there.
ThrashStudios if you ever sent me an email about that or anything and I never got back to you - sorry (just incase) as I do get a lot of those emails etc. and try to get back to them, otherwise they go in my reply to folder which 'does' get cleaned out bit by bit but sometimes takes a lot longer than expected to get back to people :)

Yes I did send a few emails your way, but i totally understand you not getting back to me, must have alot on your plate right now, with movie projects, and the DVD
Well thank you for repling to this post, I thought it had something to do with me using Max 6 and the plugins beening outdated, nice to have an answer.
I read that great post from beginning to end about particle flow, and I learned so much from that thread that I have a new found interest in particle effects. I am getting a BA in visual effects in Arizona, unfortunately the level of teaching is poor, i know more than most of my teachers, and I don't really know that much. So you can imagine how helpful your tutorials have been to me. Not to mention they cover the types of things I have always wanted to learn, you are doing a huge service to us students trying to learn and apply visual effects techniques into our work. From myself and I am sure thousands of others, thank you for helping us out man you rock :buttrock:
BTW how is the DVD coming along, can't fricking wait to get my hands on that. That company that is doing the authoring for you have they given you any indication as to when they may finished the DVD?

I tried putting blurlib into the plugins directory and then creating another folder for electric, Max 6 wouldn't accept blurlib gave me an error, so I think the problem is like Allan said it needs to be recompiled for max 6. However maybe someone that knows more than me about this stuff could give it a try. Thanks for the reply though.

Allan
Did you get a chance to talk with Blur Studios about the electric and blurlib plugins.
Thanks

ah damn I'm sorry, DD put up a bar tab to celebrate beating the temp deadline for Blade 3, so from 1pm to 4pm we were all chugging down beer, so by the time I got to Blur I wasn't exactly sober so just caught up with Willi Hammes and a few other guys and then went on to tequila night.
As far as I know, a majority of the plugins will probably work to an extent although with some instability - although obviously not work as well as if they were recompiled for Max 6.
If you just want to use them for stuff like electric etc. I think I've done some tuts on 3dluvr.com that explain how to work around that (in the vid tuts section) so you don't necessarily need the electric plugin.

DD knows how to have some fun ;), but apparently Blur is hardcore in their drinking compared to some of the fellows at blur.

I guess this will teach me not to take great free plugins for granted.
