hello everybody!

i'm a new XSI user, coming from 3dsmax and having worked with cinema 4d also. i find it pretty difficult to find my way through the software, but it kind of works out after practicing for a while.

BUT there are some hings i'm still having problems with, so here's the first of many stupid beginner questions about to come from me:

concernig modelling: is there a way to unite two or more vertices in one? i tried collapsing them but then they just totally disappear...

huh??!?

thanx a lot for your help!

try Alt+M

You can weld them together :)

Modify > Poly. Mesh > Weld Two Points/Edges

You can also weld edges together.

On a side note, collapsing is essentially removing. From the manual (page 189 of the modeling manual):

You can remove polygons, edges, and vertices by collapsing them using Ctrl+Delete. The components are removed and remaining components are reconnected, creating no new holes.

• When a vertex is collapsed, it is removed along with any edges that share it. The other vertices that were connected to those edges are joined in a loop by new edges.

• When an edge is collapsed, it is removed along with its two endpoints. The other vertices that were connected to those edges are all joined to a new vertex at the midpoint of the collapsed edge. The effect is as if the original edge was scaled to zero (below).
If you collapse just one edge of a double edge, the selected edge is removed. The vertex at the end of one of the “dangling” edges is removed and that edge is reconnected to the other “dangling” vertex, which is moved to the midpoint. This affects other polygons adjacent to the double edge.

• When a polygon is collapsed, it is removed along with its edges and vertices. The other vertices that were connected to those edges are all joined to a new vertex at the midpoint of the collapsed polygon. Again, the effect is as if the original polygon was scaled to zero (below).
When multiply selected polygons are collapsed, connected polygons are collapsed together as if they were a single polygon. Disconnected islands of selected polygons are collapsed separately.

Welcome to XSI! :)

well, thank you!

welding is pretty much what i was looking for!

The Welding tool is included with the Move Point tool(hotkey M) so 'hold alt' and move the point over the 'target' and they'll snap together...

It's by far,the most intuitive weld tool I exprimented.

Edit:There are a few issues beginners often overlook here's a few;

-the lock rotoscope button that appears on the viewport taskbar after applying a roto

-Use "S" for the camera system in the perspective view and DON't use "Z"

-If you don't work in Immediate mode,Freeze the object often or you'll end up with slowdowns

-Double-Clicking on L,M or Right mouse button constrains to it's affiliated Axis

-Alt,along with other operations lets you choose a different pivot point to apply this last operation on,

-Turn on "headlights and specular" in the "camera display"(alt right click in the scene and choose "properties") to get a better lighting than the default,

-Have fun!!

"headlights and specular" is really cool for modelling!

thanx!
