Question?

Have you seen this man ->> Jerry Naujoks

What ever happened to this guy? Did he up and vanish or what? Did anybody buy his DVD Pre-Order besides me? I never got anything. No Link to a Magic page with a password or anything.
I bought that DVD like a year ago.

IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS THE NEW SITE WILL BE ONLINE ! EVERY BUYER WILL RECEIVE
HIS LOGIN/PASS FOR THE MEMBER AREA (THE TUTORIAL DOWNLOAD-SITE!

That's basically what I'm saying. They have already announced Maya 6, but I still never got a login, and password to any site that had tutorials for pre-Maya 6 like he stated.

That's been the story for a long time. He was saying the tutorials would be ready soon a long time ago.

I sent this guy probably a good 20-25 e-mails all of which have gone unresponded to and I seriously doubt that anything soon will come of his so called DVD. After over 6 months of excuses I'd persue getting your money back now, and if something ever does come of it, then make the purchase then. I'm not saying this guy was a sham or whatever, but he obviously doesn't follow through on his products and his communication leaves something to be desired.

I am suddenly wondering if this mental ray dvd has any voices on it. At times, I have a feeling that it may be voiceless which I hope is not the case. Having said that and knowing that the DVD has been late for whatever reasons, I think that once we all receive it, we will be very happy with his efforts.

And having already seen the leaks of Maya 6 Mental Ray features, I will be glad if he includes all of those new features in the DVD.

I'm, emailing this guy. I expected something to happen by now. This morning I saw that you can already download the maya update if you paid for the eServices, or whatever member so it's out in the open. He should be able to release his DVD, and should have made contact with us.

Actually you can't quite download it yet, not until the 26th.

They've just setup the download page.

Could you elaborate ... did you get a reply from an email?

Oh .... er yeah thats what I was asking about ... honest
(EDIT)peope editing their posts makes it a little confuzed(EDIT)
On a side note .. a lot of people from alias must browse this website .
You would think that they would say something if the guy was
falsely claiming to be alias beta tester.
You would think

My intuition, 7 months ago, posted here at CG talk, tells me that Maya 6 will arrive in April which proved to be right. Somehow common sense is telling me 2 things:

1. This Mental Ray DVD will be shipped before end of May.
2. We will see the full-blown increase in XSI use and cgtalk XSI threads within one year.

Has anyone else sent a request for their money back, and how did that go?

It's a pity everyone is having so many problems with this guy. The DVD looks very useful.

Anyone have any other similar sources of info/training about MR for maya?

I sent him an e-mail requesting a refund last week, but just like the other 25 e-mails I've sent, I've received no reply.

I'm really disappointed.. I was waiting to receive this and write a big review on it, if I should happen to receive this instead of a refund..the review will start with me pointing out the huge delays.

I think what has happened is his drive has died, that straight away makes motivation for finishing very tough mentally. He has done all the non-recoverable recording, finished it, rang up Alias, and run into a problem he really should have double checked. Knowing a rough release date.. he has most likely come out and said.. give me a few weeks..I'll record all the stuff using 5.0. A month later saying.. Oh I'll make it downloadable..give me a few more weeks.. Now that Maya 6 is out.. he can go ahead using the original recording of Maya 6 and send the DVDs. Delay tactics.

Again I tried a reverse billing via PayPal. Not a word. I think I'm going to file a complaint.

What a crook!!!
It's funny it says on his site the DVD will ship in 2003 :-)
If he was genuine he would have atleast fixed his splash screen.

Maybe its possible to get in touch via phone (if he doesn't lie)

Sad. Was really looking to get the DVD once its out. :(

File a complain with the Better Business Bureau:
http://complaints.bbb.org/Welcome.asp

I had to to that once for a web hosting company that refused to respond to my legitimate refund requests for over a month. Within a week after filing with the BBB they responded to me and refunded my money immediatly.

after hearing about the whole flemming debacle, i've decided to never pre-order anything unless its coming from a reliable already established source like amazon.com or something. i'm glad i didn't preorder this dvd now, but it is indeed a shame as i was looking forward to ordering it after it was released. but now... who knows? it's a shame because if everything were released on time and as scheduled, i'm confident a lot of sales would have been made. but once u start getting unsatisfied customers, no matter what the reason, the product all of a sudden has a bad aura around it and turns a lot of otherwise potential buyers away. including myself.

on the flip side, i do know how frustrating making training dvd's can be. you work hard all day, when you get home you want to spend time doing things other than 3d with your loved ones or working on a personal project. you get sidetracked easily and it's easy to lose motivation.

that is very true. which is also why most respectable companies don't charge your card until the product is shipped, and even then most of them will call you to remind you that your card is about to be charged and ask if you would like to cancel your order before the product is shipped. so you guys that preordered, has your money already been taken? or is it sitting in limbo? somebody mentioned paypal... was that the only way to order?

On a side note sorry to detract but...

Has anyone tried the Alias Mental ray custom shaders dvd ??? (http://www.alias.com/eng/education/learning_tools/maya_advanced/mt_mentalray_custom_shaders.shtml)
Is it worthwhile?

@ blue magic, I have both of Paolo’s Alias Mental Ray DVD’s and I think there great! The “Mental Ray Custom Shaders” DVD is the best one. Of course now a lot of the content that is on the DVD is now online because people finally figured out how to use the shaders and wrote tutorials on using them but there is still a lot of really cool tips and tricks on the DVD.
