This is my first attempt at modeling a character. I used a lot of Jim Lee work as reference, and tried to use some anatomy books to fill in the comic art gaps. The texture is just a basic blinn....I plan on doing a decent texture eventually. The teeth will eventually be modeled as well, but right now I am more concerned with the head/face. While I don't plan on animating this model, I'd still like to know what needs work so that it *could* be animated. I'd appreciate any critiques on the modeling of this.

Thanks in advance for your comments...

Hello,

I am surprised noone has replied to this yet. I think this looks like its gonna be fantastic. Great expression and model.
How did you get the creases on his forehead, they don't seem to correspond to your model geometry...have you put a bump map on this aswell?

As for animation I think the eyes and cheeks may be OK but that mouth has been modelled in a way that makes it very difficult to manipulate. You need to get your edge loops sorted so that it can be moved into more positions...including the expression you already have.

good work.

this. looks. awesome.
very frank miller -ish. the expressions are amazing.
if you're going after the jim lee look, i think his head is too fat. usually, that's a frank miller characteristic.

As for the forhead, I did not use any bump mapping yet. I made adjustments to finer level verts, and then pushed and partial creased the desired edges. I'm not sure that's the best method to use if I want to manipulate the pose, but it seemed to work well for this case.

I was curious if anyone else would think that the head was too broad/fat. While it did match up to the image plane I used, I thought it might look a little too wide as well. Now I know it's not just me (although making a Millar-ish Batman wouldn't be *all* bad).

Anyway, thanks for the input, it's nice to get some outside opinions to keep me working.

i don't think you should make the head thinner. it would look a lot more generic if you went for the jim lee style. a broader, bulkier batman, would be more interesting to look at.
damn, that facial expression is awesome!

Small update.....I adjusted the proportions of the head slightly. I did agree that he was too broad at first, but scaling down to something more jim lee-ish just didn't look right so this is a pretty good harmony I think.

I made a few minor adjustments to the face, and added in some teeth. At this point, the teeth are the only thing that is really there...I *faked* some gums until I get the teeth correct.

As always, I'd appreciate any crits good or bad on any of the model at this point. (Also, I am taking into account the earlier crit about needing to fix the mouth area to be more animation-friendly, but my deadline is pushing me to finish other things first)

Thanks in advance for your comments

the head is Juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust a little wide, but i LIKE it. (style)
also like everyone said the expression is hardcore (you can feel it)

cant wait for a textured/finished version...

You have done a fine job. I think the detail work on this really puts it over the top, the creases in the forehead and such.

I would love to see the whole body w/texturing.

Waiting with bated breath. XD

Well, thanks to the hackers my other updates were erased from the thread. I'll just post up my latest image for everyone....

I'd appreciate any crits on the texture that you can give. Also, if anyone has any good pointers or tutorial links to a good way to do scruff (other than the tut in the texturing thread), I'd love to see/hear it.

Thanks in advance for your crits and comments,
