I was wondering if it was possible in max 5 to ' morph ' a sphere into some kind of text ? hope it is possible. With morphing I mean like changing it

Hey there,
there's a plugin or script (can't recall) that "maps" objects onto other objects, i can't recall it's name, nor find a link, though, so you'll have to search for yourself.
Else you could try the "Conform" tool, found under "Compound Objects", it might just do that actually.

too bad that you dont know the name of that plugin the conform tool isn't giving the exact results I want. mayb I should explain better. I'm working on a motion that a 'sperm' is swimming and then comes to an egg cell when he penetrates the egg cell the eggcell should turn into some kind of text. hope this is explained better.

How about animating the opacity to "reveal" a bitmap of your text?

Well If I do that it wont be something like the sphere turning into a text. I guess ?

You're not really defining very well what you want it to look like. Have any examples of something similar?

You could always make the text first, then Sphereify it and distort it to be a solid. May not be very elegant though.

You could do the above, but cross-fade in the middle between the egg sphere and the text-fake-sphere, adding some distortion in post to add some life to it.

U mean the sphere 'pops' like a balloon and turns into text? Just animate visibility on two objects.....

ok I'll try to explain as good as possible.

after the sperm has entered the egg cell. the eggcell turns into some kind of blob thingy like teh xbox start up without a dvd in it. so it's 'blobby' then it changes the blob. into some kind of 3 dimensional text. I actually saw this kind of motion on MTV on tv looked everywhere on the internet but couldn't find it. it basicaly comes to sphere changes into 3d text :] sphere turns in some kind of liquid and changes into text

ok, so you have this "bubble" and the bubble morphs into the word "max" [as an example]

if the bubble was morphing into another object, like a box, this would be easy. but since the new object is made of 3 separate objects [the letters M, A, and X] it gets tricky.

i would work back wards. make the letter M, A, and X. then put the spherical modifier on it. this will try to push the verts on the letter out wards into a sphere shape. then animate the 3 letters [that should look like spheres] moving closer together. then move the sphere into one another at the same time and animate one sphere to become bigger.

this is an easy workaround. if you want a perfect, high-end solution, you should use some kind of particle solutions using meta-particles or something. if you were in max 6, it might be possible with particle flow...

hope this helps.

that might work thnx alot I'll have a try at it :]
