CGTalk - Banner question

hi guys i working on some banners for this website...but i'm having some trouble doing what i got in mind

ok here's the banner

now i would like to have this bow/wave kind off effect in the banner

like the example you see here

.. notice that the banner on the left next to the al-jazeera logo the banners going up in this wave effect ...

i would like to do the same thing only prblm is i don't know how to do this stuff in photoshop so does annyone know a tutorial out there that explains this exact same issue..or could annyone tel me how i should get started and what tools to use

(ps if there's some guys over here that speak dutch would be cool also since my english isnt 100%

u want to cut the red bit out but like a s shaped curve?

i would look to making paths and convering them into selections, once you have that you could apply a layer effect to get the drop shadow if thats your cup of tea :)
