so, let me get this straight... they're trying to sell a mel script that makes attributes non keyable, for $5? WTF? what about the channel control?
and the renaming script? what the hell? this stuff is free on highend, from alias, and probably a heap of other people on the web. i pity the poor suckers who pay for such scripts only to find free versions later on...

What the F....!!, man I think that it's a real shame, those script are a rip of of even better script that already exist for free!! and if that guys knows mel it's mostly due to the fact that other people are giving those mel for free..and try to help the community of maya user.
man I feel sorry for that guy..please people don't buy those script.

Yep, definitely a rip off...anybody with a basic MEL scripting knowledge could do that, plus as you said, you can get all of this on Highend3D. Wat a low way to start a business...

hey pal, if you're going to sell stuff, at least try innovating a bit. re-vamping the channel control (i mean it only works on transform attributes - what about other keyable attribs?) isn't really innovating. write something people haven't seen before.

Well, everyone's gotta start somewhere.
This seems like a nice opportunity to plug the (absolutely free) melscripting.com forums (http://forums.melscripting.com/) as a resource for people who are looking for help with MEL scripting. Of course, the CGTalk forums are a great place to come as well.

hey don't get me wrong, i'm all for helping people out who are just starting.
and definitely check out marks forums. full of useful people. it'd be good to get it a bit more of a "happenin" place. well, as "happenin" as mel forums can get. :D

Yeah, well, the melscripting.com forums seem to have a lot of overlap in both people and questions with CGTalk, but there are some knowledgeable people who stop by regularly (including Mr. Kazoo there) and now and then there are some great threads. :)

well, on the other hand...let them be... I'm sure anyone who is just a little into MEL scripting knows where to get the stuff for free and they'll soon realize that unless they start to produce some REALLY good stuff they won't see much money.

P.S.
Hey, perhaps they never heard of highend3D... perhaps we should tell tem...
noooooo....

Come on Guys :) be nicer to him :)

It's not a matter of not being nice.. it's that he didn't seem to look at what was available to the community before asking to charge for his scripts.
I've got nothing against making money for your own work.. hell, you SHOULD make money for what you do.
but the amount he's charging for the service those scripts provide is rediculous.
IF he wants to charge for scripts like that, then I'd recommend a 10 cent fee per script.. something that someone will go "oh, I could write this.. but hell, it's only 10 cents, I'll just buy it". Then he'd get more people buying the script & in the end make more money.
IMHO, of course.

ur absolutely right J.
I just read few posts and felt like, OMG they're gonna kill him for this :) Just thought maybe to tone it down a lil bit.
I'm gonna create my own Hair Paint MEL Script and though its too complex, but it's gonna be free, so i still agree with what was said after all.

$0.01 the renaming melscript here !
global proc renameSelectedObjects(string $baseName) {
string $selectedObjects[] = `ls -sl`;
for($object in $selectedObjects) {
rename $object ($baseName+"#");
}
}
Thx to pay me... Damn, I've given the source :scream:

I think the going rate for a script like that is at least 6 bucks... and that script definately needs a better UI.

Better not make the script too good because you'll get greedy publishers and dishonest authors stealing your code and passing it off as there's.
Happened to me. Won't catch me putting anything on Highend3d again.
But hey, I'm not bitter...

hmm .. I wonder from a marketing point of view how he is thinking. I mean it's like standing in a huge forest an charging 5 bucks for people to have a look at your tree. It make no sense.
This kind of greed is really something that we shouldn't encourage because it dosen't make the industry advance and it's bad for the community as a whole.
