I AM LOOKING FOR A GOOD TUTORIAL FOR SOME TIRE TREAD. I AM MODELING A NOTORCYCLE AND NEED TO KNOW HOW TO MODEL THE TREAD. I AM NEW TO 3D, I HAVE SOME EXPERIENCE WITH 3DS MAX 5 BUT I AM JUST JUMPING RIGHT INTO MAYA 5, ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APRECIATED, AND THANKS IN ADVANCE I WAS PLANNING TO DO WHITE WALLS LIKE THIS, SO ANY HITS WOULD ALSO BE HELPFUL
THIS IS THE TREAD I HAD IN MIND

First of all... i wonder why the shout-abuse option hasn't been turned on , on this board.
Second.... for tire treads you can check out a nice tutorial from my main man Deathbrain :)

One thing I would like to comment on, since you are going to the trouble of making the tread in the tire and not just rendering it in.
Vintage cars, and vintage motorcycles (if you are going for the restoration look) should have vintage tires. You want to put a whitewall on it, which is very cool, but you should also do a old tread pattern. I know that there are manufacturers out there that make modern tires with a retro look, but this is just a computer model. So you should push it all the way.
Especially if you want to eventually insert it into a vintage scene. Someone would spot that tread pattern on it in a heartbeat

You could also try making a black and white map of the tread in photoshop and then using it as a displacement map on your tire geoetry and them use the modify>convert displacement to polys tool.
also check out www.suurland.com and click on the link for new beetle and he has a tut on car modeling and tire modeling.
