View Full Version : Palm Tree Modeling ?
sgiuoco2 04-16-2004, 09:11 PM Does anybody know the best way to model this.

I have tried creating one brach and doing several different radial arrays but my results are just not as close as I would like it. I am not interested in buying a plugin, just want to be able to model a nice realistic palm tree.
Thanks to all

Why not just model a couple variations of the branch and place them on the trunk manually instead of trying the radial array? Sometimes a tool or plugin just won't do what you need so you have to do it manually.
on LW 7.5, you can use 'magic bevel'....it's a nice tool to make trees...

Clip maps work rather well for the leaves ;)

This was made using a single clipmap and WC displaced leaves, that I manually attached.
The leaves have a slowly moving displacement to make them sway in the wind.
The trunk is made with a simple tube, morphed to bend and uses Normal Displacement to make the ridges.
Then a few textures to add details to the trunk.
Not perfect, but works for TV!
;)
You can see them animated at the begining of my reel.
