View Full Version : nurb modeling problems
deshai 04-16-2004, 01:52 PM I bought the gnomon modeling 3 dvd (GTP Race Car). really nice if it works. But I get cracks all over my model. On this site down here. I've put a simple test model.

Maybe anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong here?

Hi. Had the same problem... but solved. Several ways:
1. Try using Mental Ray Surface aproximation... very useful
2. Or just select your model go Render-Nurbs Tesselation and choose Advanced tesselation for about 20 per U and V spans.
If it goes wrong I'll download and try it myself... bye.

hi, I've tried them both. The Mental Ray Surface aproximation works a little bit, but even if I put the u and v really high their still little cracks in it.
I just used the round tool to make this model, it suppose to work seamless right?

3 basic rules for nurbs modeling/rendering...
- if there are unattachable many surfaces that should be perfectly stitched...(stitch tools)
- sure, nurbs patches should be countinuously(U and V direction(isoparm) each surface)...
basically, you should not have been see any distances all ready this step(in VERY detail view can be see slight spaces between surfaces)
- after that you may playing with tesselation :)
p.s.1: sory for my english

well if nothing works try another way to model that simple model.
good luck!

For the last few days I'f bin trying the tips I'f bin getting, but it's not really working for me... I must say some tips I don't really understand...
I understood that nurb modeling one of the things is that makes Maya such a strong package... Why did they make it so hard to work with?
well if nothing works try another way to model that simple model.
I think that is only a temporary solution. Next time I'm gonna have the same problem and not be able to choose a different way do do it...
I'm a bit desperate now. everything I model in nurbs got cracks. with other words I can't model anything useful... :hmm:

nurbs modeling is not hard but is litle bit more specific then poly modeling...

do you see on the pics that isoparms are countinuously? and im asking....are there isoparms continuously on your model? ::beer:
