Just want say what a great company Maxon is for support.
I got a another phone call from the guy who phoned me about 2 months ago.
He was interested in what the users wanted in Cinema 4D when i told him i was part of the CgTalk.com cinema 4d forum.
I mentioned that N-gons were on the list and he told me about Mesh Surgery too(Third Party Plugin Modeling Tools).
He did ask me what i thought about Sketch and Toon and asked if 3d was just a hobbie of mine. I did say Sketch and Toon was exspensive and he agreed with me and did'nt ask if i wanted to upgrade to it.
I did say that i had not been creative in the last month or so and he told me about a free dvd which included tutorials on using cinema4d and he was sending it to me and said it would hopefully get some inspiration back.
He also asked how i got on with MOCCA the character animation module that i got included in the bundle.
I asked him if poser models could be rigged in cinema but he didn't know himself and went to his mate in the office to ask.
They said they did'nt know but were really interested in finding out themselves .

I asked them when the realese date of Cinema 4D R9 would be and though i he could'nt give me a definate answer he said the end of the year.
It's cool that Maxon has such a friendly team who are there to help and answer questions.
Yes they do phone and ask you if you want to upgrade(not this time though) but thats their job,but they don't try and do the hard sell on you.
They want you to be happy at the software and with support like that you can't fault them.

And they even send you a fee cd to help ya

its good that you point this out...often times people forget to mention the good on forums like this...maxon should get a pat on the back for this and its good that you did that.

can't say i've ever had a call like this...but it obviously happens and i'm glad maxon are being "pro-active" with its users...as well as obviously participating on web forums...so good job maxon.

I know that MAXON has a lot of irons in the fire at the moment. A couple that I've gotten in trouble for mentioning!

It's great that they don't lose sight of the individual user and treat each and every customer with respect and care, regardless if you are John Doe or Sony Pictures.

I know Kai and I have had heated discussions over training manual updates, but for real... no other company I've dealt with stays on top of the game like MAXON.

I have never once second-guessed my decision to purchase! Never once! And I will upgrade to 9.0 without hesitation.

Just my two cents,

Dave

I have always had great tech support from Maxon, but the sales people where a bit less resourcefull. But i have loved Cinema since the release of R6. BTW: how can one get that free DVD, who did you contact? I am feeling a bit less creative these days aswell .

I can relate to this Scott - the people at Maxon UK are excellent! - I recently bought the Sketch & Toon module, and since I had a few questions to ask about it, I ordered by phone. I spoke to a guy there called Richard who was very hepful, and very chatty about other aspects of Cinema and what tools I liked etc. Of course, it's all good market research for them ultimately, but I got the impression I was talking to someone who loved 3D as much as I, and was geuinely enthusiatic about discussing how it [C4D] could all be improved and developed further.

They 'feel' like a small, personal company, and that's a great thing amongst all the faceless corporations -- actually having someone answer the phone, and people giving you names are important, memorable touches IMO. :)

Yeah Richard called me and as I was not in a position to upgrade to 8.5 at the time, he left me alone for a bit but this week I called him up and had the disk the next day - fantastic!

They really are the best 3D company I've ever delt with, and I've been buying 3D software since 1989. Here in the States, Paul Babb is the head Honcho at Maxon USA. He was the former head of marketing for Electric Image and had the vision and foresight to see Maxon's potential when Cinema was at v5. I bought C4D R6 from him when he did a demo at our (rapidly disbanding by then) EI user group.

When BodyPaint was first introduced, we had a demo at our user group and hit a snag. We got Paul on the speaker-phone (he was at his desk) and he walked us thru the program for almost an hour. (He's on the West coast, we're on the East coast).

You can still contact him and discuss C4D issues. How many other Company Presidents will take the time to chat on the phone with a user?

I just wish I'd known about C4D before I spent all that money on EI and LW and Formz, etc.

O.K., Dave, a thousand times "Non Disclosure Agreement" - start writing!

I understand bud, it's hard to keep quiet when you're in the loop. After all, the stuff people are asking for are being dealt with as we speak. Ah, the temptation of it all!

Cheers,
BaRa

They ARE a small personal company. Trust me, they are. How many 3Dcompanies do you know with their own pool and nocturnal BBQ ritual? And they still manage to squeeze out such a quality product. Talk about motivated people!

Cheers,
BaRa

I also have had nothing but first class support from Maxon. They know I am not a pro but they still call just to ak if everything is okay. They always seem to me to go beyond what it is reasonable to expect as customer sevice. I cannot praise them high enough

They have a system in place so that you always get put through to the same person you last spoke with, unless they are on another call, then you will be routed to someone else.

This pretty much avoids the problem of speaking to a new anonymous person everytime.
