Hello,

What are the implications of buying Maya second hand, i.e. from ebay etc. Would it be possible to install it as I've heard of an anti pirating feature called Node-locking which prevents the installation of Maya onto another pc unless you contact Alias who will of course not be too happy when they find out how you got your software!

I am guessing that if you bought a second version of Maya yu probably could find a way to install it but I reckon that you wouldn't be able to get any support etc.

Does anybody have any experience of this as I keep hearing conflicting stories!

Alias' license doesn't allow reselling of the software. Technically you could buy it off someone and as long as you get their network card or dongle off them you could run the software on your machine. Thing is you could never upgrade the software or ever get support from Alias on it.

Maya complete is only 2k, might as well buy it outright. One job should pay for it and its a business expense so you can write it off on your taxes.

Alias can transfer the registered ownership of a license for you, though their policy is somewhat restrictive. I believe that they will do it only if you are buying a complete business that owns licenses for their software.

Depending on the circumstances it may be possible to structure the transaction in such a way that it falls within their policy. You'd have to contact them for specifics though.
