One of the things that always bugged me about the classic show was all the damned mistakes that appeared. Out of 192 episodes, there where probably 220 mistakes. Some new ones still being found. For example, most of the mistakes seem to happen with the villains, so take these three examples...

The Technodrome Eye Laser is missing major detail, as is the top of the sphere, and the sphere itself is missing two majorly detailed laser arms.

Their supposed to have full power, wich means the background should be lit, but their still using the stock background from earlier in the show when the Technodrome was completly out of power. It's not as rewarding when the villains finally succeed after 40 episodes, only to have the animation not coincide with it...

Tough to tell here.... The Technodrome wheels are moving, but the Technodrome itself never moves from the spot in the still, and the background is s tationary as well.....

These are just a handfull of mistakes that I'd love to fix using 3D Animation. There's just one problem. I can animate and create vehicles fine. I can create characters fine, but I can't animate characters for the life of me. At my current skill level, it's just beyond my capabilities.

What I'm hoping, is th at another TMNT fan would be willing to help out with character animation to fix some of these errors...
The only other option would be to use a Video Editing system to digitally insert the 3D into the 2D and that wouldn't look cool...

Any help appreciated!

...........................ok then.................just a little obssesive

Has it occured to you that inserting 3d elements is going to make it look worse?

TMNT is not high quality production and actual physically correct objects are going to look out of place next to all the distortions in the drawing. Why not just animate over it by hand?

Well, one of the things I'm going to look into once all my models are fully completed is to see if Cell Shading animation is a possability in Max. Maby with that included, it'll be possible to make the 3D blend in with the 2D a bit more should I go that route...
If I manage to fix some of the ma jor scenes with 3D Cell animation, I hope to edit the entire episode together with the new s tuff just to see how it would look...

I'm trying to match the classic characters and vehicles as accuratly as possible with the 3D animation as well...

Dude.. You scare me :hmm:

To pull this kind of project off is going to be time consuming and it will involve alot of pain. More than any mortal soul can handle. You know what would be MUCH easier and much more fun? To redraw all the TMNT episodes by hand using only a fork and a tailbone from a T-rex.

what i'm saying is, even looking at that first picture you posted with the eye thingy, it isn't even a sphere. Its all warped.

If you replace any piece of that picture with 3d, you will have perfect geometry, cell shaded or not. And that will stand out.

are you batty?! this could maybe be an intersting project if you decided to model everything from that episode including characters and the techodome and then re-do the episode, that might be cool...but even that is suicide....what you are asking just isn't feesible. Just love the turtles for what they were...

on a side note, anyone every re-watch other cartoons like He-man? Man, they all sucked! Why do we love them so?

This doesn't even look like a case for 3d work, it's much more in the vein of simple compositing and roto.

But yeah, this project seems a little batty.

Actually, Beleive it or not, I DO have the time to rework an entire episode into 3D. When you run a web hosting buisness like myself, you don't have to leave the house to go to a day job if you don't want to, so you have alot of free time :).

The Technodrome Version 10 is almost complete.

Bebop, Rocksteady, Krang, Shredder, Turtles, Splinter and April are on the slot next.

Only problem is I don't have the animating skill to do it, hence the note :).

Not to sure that your idea will work out either...but hey, I've seen stranger things happen.
I don't have tons of time to donate, but If you actually get the items you have mentioned modelled and textured...Out of sheer amazment....I'll donate some meager character animation skills. ;)

GO you "Batty" guy...GO!

haha. I think youre crazy. If you manage to make one whole episode in 3d. Just one. I'll send you 20 bucks in the mail.

Heh, and to think this all began when I just wanted to fix a few minutes worth of mistakes, and suddenly it balloned into making a whole episode :). As stated before, I'd probably have the time to animate a whole 20 minute episode, I'd just need someone to set up MAX skeletons for the characters I'd re-create....
