View Full Version : Do employers even look here?
bigGnomon 07-11-2002, 07:19 PM I've always wondered if any employer actually checks forums like this for talent. Or is this forum (and others like it) just ignored?
More important, I'd be interested in hearing if any employer has hired anyone out of this forum.

i dont see many replies on most of the threads in here....my guess would be no. there are'nt many employers looking in these forums for talent.
its probably because there is just too many people out there...too muh competition to sift through.
im sure there are some cases of people finding jobs in these rooms, but rather rare...but if there's a chance, well go for it...God knows I am.
hope i answered your question a bit anyways...even though i just gave my opinion.

Yeah Darrell that's kind of what I figured. This is like that huge party you attend and nobody knows anyone else. This kind of forum needs to be better thought out to make it easier on the employer to find what she/he is looking for.
Maybe break the "Artist Looking for Job" Forum into multiple threads. (Compositors, Character Animators, Matte Painters, etc)
That way someone looking to hire for a "roto artist" would know to look in the roto section only.
Who knows. I'm not sure there is a "right" answer, but right now this kind of forum (not picking on the CG Channel folk, I'm just talking in general) doesnt serve a huge purpose.
IMHO of course. :D

I breeze though here looking for possibles...
[but I usually only have time to glimpse at the work...and I only really check threads with a specific discipline in the subject [ie: animator, modeler, etc]]

Sure we look, actually I don't employ, but I sure can refer to the guy who does the hiring if I like what I see. It would be uncouth, in my book, to reply to a public forum regarding employment, rather than contacting the job seeker personally...

The people who hear from employers aren't going to come back to the forum if they get hired. Most employers will select a confidential approach to communicating with a potential candidate rather that share that dialogue with the public. Clearly, the employer looks at what you have written and how you respond to posts...you tell a lot about your professionalism and your communication skills in this fashion. Be careful what you say and most important how you say it.
If you aren't getting the job done with your job search visit a friendly site... www.iguanaresume.com .
Good luck in all your pursuits.
