hey, i've got this problem.
i've modelled up a dude, vampire. the thing is, he's supposed to "crumble" to dust, starting at his head and going down and finally be blewn away by some sort of mystic wind... the problem is, i don't have a fuggin clue how to do it
if any of you could help me out, i'd really appreciate it.

thanks.

There was a plugin 'Sandblaster' which could do this kind of carryon, I dont know if it has been recompiled for Max4 though - I beleive Digimation was distributing it... It would be quite hard with Max's standard particles.

If you want to try to fake it, i think you could use the melt modifier in max. have an alpha channel with some type of noise fade in from the bottom, and then have some particle dust pop up around it. Might look good if you play around with it.

You can also use the Parray particle system. Use the orginal mesh as the emitter. Then under particle type use the "Object Fragments" option. Then just hide the orginal mesh and fiddle with the settings.

@ taoizm & lou ... thanks for that bit of valuable info :D i'll definitly try and "fipple" with both those modifiers... hopefully something'll come out :D

Otherwise i'll have to use the old:
VWV
Violence
Will
Vaseline

take care guys, and thanks.

You could try screen maping a whole lot of particles emitted from the vampire with a render of the scene with him whole. Then take a deflector and animate it pushing down on him, it should send the particles scattering, starting at his head and moving to his feet.

What Taoizm said but then add gravity spacewarp, add wind spacewarp then bind them to the Parray. Fiddle with the settings :scream:

Digimation Plugs. Pfff... u can do without em.

Thanks for the replys, have really helped me along... still haven't got it all together, as i'm in the challenge this month less and less time goes to my vampire, he'll just have to wait.

@ diffused ... we don't need no stinking plugins!

yeah! puck em! ..y...u,... yeah..! ... *sidenote: learn how to program and sDk*

Hmm.. big companies add dust in composite software, so if you really want a superb result, i suggest spending your "Plugin-To-Be-Bought-Money-Jar" on composite software such as combustion 2. :hmm: Personally, i'll still stick with particle systems in 3dsmax. :buttrock:

Puck! Puck!
<big smile>
man, plugins may be fun for like 5 minutes or so... with the standard particle systems and so on in 3dsmax you can have fun for HOURS ;p
