View Full Version : Knight (WIP)
Libor 07-11-2002, 06:32 PM HI Everybody!
Just want to know your opinions. Its still WIP and actually I have not got any exact polybudget but I think somethink about 1600 faces.
I havent optimize his back and butt yet, just finalized the head and overall proportions (note that he is wearing chest armor so the legs looks quite thin).
Still lot of work on it (hands, legs etc.). I really like to hear some advices or comments on topology (Come on game artists veterans there is a plenty of you :D ).
Cheers

Well I'm no veteran, but I think your knight is shaping up nicely.
You pulled off the "heroic jaw" well.. and the face in general looks good.
I like his proportions.. it's got a cartoonish look but there's nothing wrong with that. Bulky chest and slightly stumpy legs :)
I know you haven't done much refining yet, but I'd suggest defining his arms more, paying careful attention to the elbow area if you're planning to rig him for animation. Same thing with the knees.
Good luck and post updates as you progress!

Thanks for your comments:) Yes you are definitely right with elbows and knees Ill rig him too. Concerning his face - actually I am planning to give him a beard but your opinion suits me too:surprised
I am not sure about detailing parts on upper arm cos there will be shoulder armor:hmm: which will cover significant part of it.
I am not sure how it will deform during animation cos the shoulder armor shouldnt deform but arm yes! Have you got some proposal??
Ill post my progress ASAP (probably during weekend - I am too busy for personal project over work week:thumbsdow )
P.S. Is there any way how to post pic directly in post (I mean not to show just link to my URL)
Thanks in advance!

I think a beard will look good on the model. So I guess that isn't the jaw, but rather the facial hair :)
If certain areas are always going to be covered in armor, then don't worry about them. Concentrate on what can be seen. I didn't realize he was going to have shoulder plates.
Oh, and to put an image in your post, just click the "IMG" button in the vB code section when you are posting. It will prompt you for the URL of your image. You just paste that in there and it puts the proper code into your post. You'll see.
Look forward to seeing the update!

Here is a small update which I ve done before I leave office.
I reworked head cape, add shoulder blades, made some topology changes on legs and arms. I also rough out hands. Still not optimized - see avi link at the botom.
It weights 1396 faces now and lot of work on it.

very nice. still having a bit of the "stumpy" issue with the legs, like said up above. i think that can be solved by moving the "knee guard...err um thingys" up some. the face texture is excellent, needs a bit more shadding to add enviroment. overall great work!

agreed. the face is looking really good. can't wait to see the rest! the legs do look stumpy.. but I'm thinking they might be ok once the texture's on. I keep picturing the knees being right where the top leg meets the boot, but they will actually be a bit above that, right?
what happened to the armor covering his upper legs? it's there in the previous picture :) I think it worked better with the armor there.
good work though! let's see more!

Thaks for response:)
Concerning his legs - knees are actuallly above the boots (which can look like knee guard but its just part of boots) - knees will be highlighted on tex later so it will be OK.
Manik Monkey: dont worry about older model version with armor -its still there but Its a seperate part of model (like clothing between his legs - see avi link in older post).
ASAP the body is textured I will add all parts of him together...
I´ll post some update today so stay tooned
