hi folks_i did some experimentation on GI_need your comments and suggestions for these lighting conditions...

[morning]

http://www.yourimagehost.com/is.php?i=3771&img=1.jpg

(I used fR skylight,value1.0 and pale yellow direct light, value 0.7)

[evening]

http://www.yourimagehost.com/is.php?i=3774&img=4.jpg

(orange skylight, value 0.5 and white direct light, value 0.35)

[moon light]

http://www.yourimagehost.com/is.php?i=3773&img=3.jpg

(dark blue skylight, value:0.5 and pale blue direct light, value:0.35)

[interior light (night)]

http://www.yourimagehost.com/is.php?i=3772&img=2.jpg

(dark blue skylight, value:0.5 and fR luma object light on cylinder)

ok guys_my questions

1)for night scenes, do we need skylight? any good tips for the setting?

2)for artificial lighting (bulbs/lamps), is fR LumaObject the only solution? any suggestions for the settings of different types of light (tugsten/neon/flourescent)?

that's all guys_thank you

For artificial lighting you can use photometric lights, too.
Some light-data can be downloaded here: http://www.erco.com
have fun

phometric eh? hurm...haven't experimented it yet...but just one question...i need to model to actual real world size to get the right lighting if i use photometric lights, am i correct? plus i dunno if max's photometric light is compatible with fR anyway...

but...thanks for the site url...downloaded the catalogue...lotsa photometric data and good pics too...i can use it as a reference......thanks man...cheers

afaik the IES-:lightbulb have something to scale them to fit your scene
and they are very compatible with fR.

happy rendering!
