Hi all this is the finished version of kelivina, does kelivina sound cool or what! Even though I think its finished, critiques are all welcome, since I can't get my head all round how you people see it.

A bit about the image would be nice, yeah ok.

* its done in maya, using maya render.
* it use no textures, everything is shaded.
* all shading done with a mel script(nprs)
* everything is polygons except for the xxx player's cord
* Last but not least it renders really fast :) 2 minutes, don't even have time to make coffee :(

I like the overall look of the scene. It has a look similar to an ink drawing painted with watercolours.

Nice mood in your picture .A kind of warmness i feel.
You should perhaps work more on the setup of your character.
it s seems there 's some problems with elbows(a little flat when bend) and also something wrong under the jaw.

maybe a little more detail to the hands.
i agree with spending more time with the character setup. the fingers and elbow don't seem to deform right.
the neck seems fairly long too.

Here is the new version.
And a list of changes I made to this image, after some feedback and descision making.
http://www.noboundrees.com/yinako/temp/kelivina03.jpg

Modeling changes:mouth, cheek area, hair, elbow joint, drapery.
shading changes: the skin, hair, drapery, lip, eye.
overall scene: more lights, more shadows/higher resolution.

As to the setup of the character and the joints, I understand, the character is low res, so I had no room for better deformation to work with, it was made for animation actually. And the skin has long been baked, no skeletons to work with...

Personally im not such a big fan of anime, but this mix of cartoon and 3d gives it a good unique style to it, i think you should use the first shadows from the first rendering the shadows from the second seems te be a bit messy.

setup seems to be more convincing now.But i prefer by far the atmosphere of your first post.
There is to much contrast in the second version.I think it doesn t fit with the softness of your character.

Wow, Great Job. I like the updated version way better. Even though the red gloves looks good, I feel that the grey looks better as with the lighting in this updated version. At first looking at the updated version I noticed that the way her arms are bent gives it the feel of being made of cloth (like woody in toy story) But after looking at the first image in this thread, I know that it is because of the shadow by the arms. Just my opinion. Other than that great job.

I like the idea of breaking up the light with a 'cookie' but I think that this is a little too high contrast, perhaps tone it down a little.

Nice, I like the 2nd render. :D But personally I think it would be nicer with some 'softer' and warmer lighting, maybe something like this?

Just a suggestion.

wow I didn't know some people here actually like harder shadows, in that case I'll just hit the raytracer button(hehe just joking, what ever you do never touch the raytracer button)

katlis- wow thats great, but then someone would of asked me "was anything done in post"

her elbo is half in the drapery so it doesn't show that much.

can you guys talk about the cloth, I mean does the sleve work well?
Yes I could never make up my mind about the color of the gloves, maybe I should take it off, there don't seem to be a good color to fit it...after all its not as if she has a gun in her hand.

I really like the style of these pics! The lighting looks very painterly and beautifull.

I do think that the first render is too overexposed though. You can also vagualy see the sharp shadows from a fill light which makes it look a bit messy (at first I thought it was an edge of something).

The second one has a far better atmosphere but I don't think the gobo is necessary. If you took away those lines it would still look great. And I also like the grey gloves better :)

A thing that bugs me a bit though is that the crotch seems to be too low. I don't know if it's the perspective but I have the feeling it should stop about 1/3 up that line. And if you're asking what I'm doing staring at her crotch, well you put that line in there and it does draw the eye :D

Great model!!

woww that is great! love aime style and the head and lighting are awesome! yea i agree though that the elbow connection is a bit off ( almost like the pivot of the joint of the elbow is too far back). and the hands are really close but seem a little ..... boney. i think the 2nd render with the greay gloves de-emphasize the boneyness so i like that one better ^^ but i know very little ahbout 3d so what do i know :(

the color and shadows are awesome! and again i am really digging the face!

really nice!

Hi Yinako, great character with lots of personality ... great image !
My only comment would be that the shadows on the second image look a bit blurry and there's too much of it and I think it makes the whole image dirty and it takes the focus away from the character... I liked the sharp, thin shadows on the first image better ...
Great work nonetheless.
keep it up
