what is an .rar file? I'm guessing it's a compression like .zip.
Can you post the .psd file?
I have debabilizer and that might help. I was able to open partial files with it.

hello fing, you are correct about the rar file being a compression. is it ok if i send you the file through email or i can use .zip if you use that.
thanks

This file is toast.. PS stores a preview image in the header so that is why you can see it even though the file won't open.
I tried to bring it into After Effects as a composition and got an end of file message which is a very bad sign. I thought I might beable to recover a layer or two but it crashed AE instead.
Make copies of your files as you create them.
I had something similar happen to me when I used my laptop(had a crappy vid card and such). PS 7 always crashed on me..with my new comp though it never happens.
Anyway, one time it did do that to a file, corrupted it, when i tried to open it it said it's an unsupported version..i was pissed of course! And yeah I was able to see the thumbnail still...but, I was able to save my file-i opened it up in Gimp! It worked, so i resaved it after that :)
So try opening it in Gimp, it might work for you too :)
Edit: I didn't see you had posted your file there, so I tried it, it works..you can open it in gimp and resave it. lol your person there looks like she's giving me the finger, i hope there's no virus in that :D

Wow the GIMP does open it but the top 3 layers are empty

look for the file...
MMXCore.8BX
..within your photoshop folders, and rename it too MMXCore.old. more info here at Adobe's site (http://www.adobe.co.uk/support/toptech/photoshop/322406/main.html).
i had problems at work of photoshop shutting my computer down when ever i was using a lot of memory. i thought it was a bad stick of memory, but it turns out to be something with Adobe's MMX code. if your on XP, there is an update to this file which fixes the problem with computers not running duel processors.

Yes, please post a .zip file.
I've had images that I could even see a preview of but yet was able to see the partial image in debabilizer.
Not sure if it will work, but I'll give it a try once you post.

you guys know there is a photoshop forum here right?

yes, but lets be realistic now, you do know i wouldn't get as much help there as i'd in here, hence the reason i posted in the general. theres more useful info there from guys who maybe would never look here, in here there's mainly noobs asking for tuts and tips.
hey fing hope u can check it out and salvage layers 5 and 6 if not thnks for trying.

That is no excuse , following your mentality everyone should post under GD and we can close down the app forums.
in the future please do not post under gd.
