Take a traditional painting class :) If you can paint in real life, you'll be able to paint digitally ;)

You should also check out the painting DVDs that The Gnomon Workshop (http://www.thegnonomworkshop.com) have on concept painting - from the likes of Feng Zhu, Carlos Huante, etc. Very cool stuff.
