i actually just completed a peter pan assignment for my Illustration 2 class about two weeks ago. i went about designing my rednition of Captain Hook (who was hardly visible in the final piece). but here's some very early character sketches i did for (from L to R), hook, peter pan, and an unused concept of hook. i'll post a more clearer drawing soon

i guess the innovative part about my Hook is that each of his fingers are hooks themselves. they have joints just like standard fingers, but they're completely mechanical and..yeah, hooks on the ends of each finger. :)

Not so much a re-design as it is a twisting of existing designs. I figure Cap'n Hook's got a problem keeping his head in a fight if he keeps losing to a boy who never grew up...

a couple ideas below

I kinda want to make Captain Hook:

A)a DJ who's hand is a turntable arm.

B)a neglegted child with no friends but his stuffed aligator.

C)a substitute teacher for a class of children out of control.

Ok this is what I've decided on, I got rid of the tail Fungusmonkey I think I agree with you on losing the tail. It seemed a bit corny or something!
I've put the original pencil sketch in there aswell as I thought I lost alot when I went over it in ink. So there you have it, Captain hook as a Demon reborn!

So far the only 2 that really impressed me are
tekila and archeophants.

They show true originality and style.
I'm quiet burned out on the "make everyone just half human half robot" or "just make him really really really evil" style.
Just adding a huge gun or sword does not equal new character either.

Obviously the other ones have gotten good praise from others on here, but i wanted to single out the ones that haven't really and mainly because they aren't the 'usual' style to go with.

Originality? What's that? Mine is pretty close to other designs I've seen in movies. I've always liked the design as it is, but I'm planning to make this a darker, yet still suave, version of Hook.

I've only just now managed to get an FTP program so I'm gonna post the sketch as well as the developement and final comp here.

I envisioned a "cyborgy" type guy and sux to the boy/girl who said it's an unoriginal concept. I don't see his/her stuff here.

I´m using Painter 8. I just love Painter. Allthough Photoshop is the best image editor it doesn´t have all the Painter´s painting possibilities.

I did a little more color work on the concept. Definitely a different direction from my original colors. I need to give it a more distinct light source and, of course, finish it. The composition is going to change a bit, too.
